So my EFC is 0. And i expect to get the blue and gold opportunity plan but i am confused on how that works. Are the federal grants used to cover tuition? Also, I need to live on campus (UCSD) since i can’t drive back and fourth from my home. So how would I be able to get as much money as possible?? help please!
Which method did you use to calculate your EFC?
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think blue and gold covers tuition and fees. How much is room and board? You can borrow $5,500 in student loan and the Pell grant is about $5,900. It can be used for your housing costs.
Will that be enough? Try and get a part time job now and work as much as you can this summer.
There are plenty of knowledgeable folks about what Calgrant does and doesn’t cover. But I don’t believe your cost to attend UCSD wIll be nothing.
Are you a senior? Or a junior trying to figure things out?

some info on room and board rates
a triple dorm room with the 3536 plan (2 meals a day, 5 days a week, would have to supplement with bf items, snacks, and food for weekend) is about $11,000
You will also need some money for incidentals, extra food, etc so plan on getting a work study job on campus for your personal expenses.
I believe he would need to be awarded works study…to get a work study job.
But yes…if you aren’t working now…get a job NOW and plan to work full time when school ends too. Then when you get to college, look for something 10 hours a week or so.
But really…crunch the numbers carefully!!
I thought maybe he did, with a $0 EFC. If not, get a non WS job on campus.
Talk to the Financial Aid Department!!
B&G promises that tuition and fees will be covered. CalGrant covers the tuition.
Likely the student will also get a UC grant, loans, and work study.
Student will also get a Pell Grant.
@reformedman I submitted my FAFSA back in october and that was my EFC
@MYOS1634 i am a senior who got accepted to UCSD
AFAIK, Blue and gold will cover tuition. Pell grant, work earnings, possibly a UC grant, and federal loans would cover housing, food, books, miscellaneous expenses provided you live frugally.
@MYOS1634 thank you for the info! It helped a lot!(:
