How will my academic suspension affect admission chances?

I’m wondering how my suspension from 10th grade will affect my chances at Boston University and Northeastern. In 10th grade, I was suspended for a day for plagiarism and copying one of my classmates essay. I have learnt a lot from the experience and grown. I admitted it and took full responsibility and didn’t give any excuses. My advisors and counselors will vouch for me since they have recognized the growth.

I want to apply ED to Boston University and EA to Northeastern. Here are the rest of my stats:

  • 3.65 UW GPA / 3.86 W GPA
  • haven’t taken ACT yet but planning on a 31-34
  • president of multiple clubs
  • leadership positions in school (heavily involved)
  • medical internship
  • apart of medical societies and forums
  • 8 AP’s / 4 honors
  • lots and LOTS of demonstrated interest to BU since its important to them

also, many people from my school have gotten accepted to BU with 3.5-3.6 gpa’s since I go to private school and it has a high ranking. please let me know asap!!!

ED deadline BU was Nov 1. There is a second round for Jan 1. If you’re currently a junior, then next year the Common App won’t ask about suspensions. If you are a senior, you have to tell them, and you have to use space to do the “I realize that what I did was wrong, I’ve grown so much, I’ll never do anything like that again” essay.

You MIGHT be able to get your school to erase this from your record. Honestly, a one day suspension for copying doesn’t sound so terrible to me. Talk to your parents, have them speak with the school headmaster about it. Seems pretty severe to tag someone at this point for something that minor, in tenth grade, if now you’ve got two more great years under your belt. Believe me, the private school does NOT want to negatively affect your college admissions prospects - their desirability to paying customers is improved by the college admissions records of their seniors!
