How will my GPA be interpreted?

My GPA exiting highschool weighted is a 4.4, and unweighted is a 4.0

However, I have heard that A minus is a 3.666666 (which my highschool doesnt do), and I have two A minuses so far, which decreases my unweighted GPA to 3.9997 (rounded)

Will colleges interpret this as a 3.9 GPA, or a 4.0 GPA? (Which makes a huge difference)

No school will reject you because of a 3.9997.

If your high school doesn’t do A-minuses, you don’t have any A-minuses.

okay @bodangles , the thing is that A minuses do show up on my transcript, but my high school considers them as 4.0 instead of 3.67 . And im sorry I messed up on my GPA uW calculation @usualhopeful , it is actually 3.995.

Okay, let me amend my post: No school will reject you because of a 3.995.

Anything above about a 3.95 is basically just as good as a 4.0 for colleges. A 4.0 alone doesn’t get you into a top college anymore because they have become so common. With that in mind you have to understand that grades, much like test scores, are basically used as a filter for these top colleges, where you basically need to get above a given baseline beyond which most of the decision will be determined by the rest of your app. With a 3.995 and 4.4 you have literally zero risk of not making that cut for any school.

There is no qualitative difference between a 3.9 and a 4.0. What matters more is your class rank. How many other students in your school have a 3.9? If you are in the top 5% of your class then you have nothing to worry about.

However having a high GPA/class rank is not a guarantee for admissions. This merely buys you a ticket to the admissions lottery. You will need other things to impress the admissions committee (high standardized test scores, ECs, etc).
