I'm transferring to a new school for the Fall 2013 semester. My community college GPA scale is simply A, B, C, D, F. My new school uses the A, A-, B+, B-, C+, C-, D+, D-, F. My new university caculates your GPA using their scale so using their scale that gives me a higher GPA than my CC. Is the GPA that they caculate using their scale the same GPA used in admissions? That does make my chances much better :)

Your gpa will not transfer only the credits. Depending on the school you may not be able to receive credit for any courses where you got a grade below a C. However, keep in mind should you ever apply to grad school you will have to submit transcripts from every school you have attended. Law n med schools will recalculate your GPA.

That makes sense. So if I received a B for a grade(at my local CC a 80-89 is a B, at the university a 80-85 is a B- while an 86-89 is a B+) how would my new university determine whether thats a B+ or B-?

It would be calculated as a B. The grade isn’t translated to a new scale, but rather evaluated in the context of the institution issuing the credit.
