I got suspended twice freshman year. The first time I stuck scissors in an outlet (don’t know why I did it), the second time I told the teacher I had to go to the bathroom but instead I went to the library (I thought I would only get a detention). However, I am a junior now and I have not done anything bad since. I was wondering if this would significantly impede my chances of getting into a good college (aiming for UFM ).
My GPA as of now is 3.85. After this year is over iIwill have taken 7 APs. My SAT score was 2200 and my ACT score was 34. I have done 3 years of wrestling and participated in 2 clubs every year so far. I also do volunteer work a couple of times a year. I have also achieved platinum on USACO (programming thing). I am also Asian which I heard makes things harder.
You will get into a “good” college, if you have a reasonable definition of “good.” Most colleges are pretty forgiving toward minor episodes freshman year. My son had a much rougher record than yours, and he got into our state flagship.
Write the essay about why you put the scissors in the outlet and what you learned from it…that could be your transition from childhood to adulthood…show that you are mature.
NO. Do NOT use your essay to explain stupidity. Is this the image u want to leave the Adcomm w? The essay is an opportunity to leave the AdComm w a POSITIVE impression of you, not to be an apology.
I was suspended back in sophomore year. an OSS actually. still got into “good” schools. just explain it in the disciplinary part of the application. and move on
You’re fine. It’s not the college’s goal to hunt you down and punish you for some innocent misbehavior during your freshman year. If it was a severe criminal activity, yes, but visiting the library instead of going to the restroom? Absolutely not.
