How will they know our GPA? & Transcript

It’s a stupid question, but I’m genuinely curious since there’s no place for it on the application whatsoever, unlike other apps such as the CSU app where they do ask for it. Do they just calculate it themselves while going through our apps?

Also when is our transcript due to the schools? After we get in, or am I missing something, ah?!

Thanks so much

They calculate it themselves.

You only sent transcripts and other official documents to which school you attend.

I guess I’ve always just wondered about the credibility. I mean, I could just say that I got an A in every class, but they would need some proof. I was told by a UCLA advisor that I would likely be asked for my transcript at some point, but she didn’t mention when that might be. She did say, though, that I should order copies to have on hand just in case. (It’s faster to run them to the school than it is to order them when the school asks.)

**ETA: I’m tired and just submitted an essay. I share your question, @tooweirdyo !

Your offer would be rescinded if they got your transcript and it did not align with what you had claimed.

Was this a peer counselor or someone actually from UCLA? Because none of this makes any sense. UCLA is not going to ask anyone for their actual transcript during the application review process. But they will, just like every other college in the country, require you to send a final transcript if you accept an offer of admission. Furthermore “having copies on hand” is not how it works. Official transcripts are sent from your school directly to the recipient. For obvious reasons they don’t want it to pass thru the hands of the student.

@mikemac It was an undergraduate admissions rep from UCLA. I’m not sure exactly why I was told what I was told, but that’s what they told me.

@incogneato Talk to a different rep. @mikemac is correct, usually transcripts are sent from your cc directly to the school you are applying to. If you are transferring from a foreign school and have to have your grades translated, an agency that does that has to send transcripts back in a sealed envelope that you can later mail to admissions yourself. But even if that is the case, the envelope has to be sealed (I can’t stress this enough).

@lenocturne Interesting! Okay. I do have my high school transcript on hand, still sealed in its original envelope and I planned to order my CC (out-of-state) transcript to have on hand, also to remain sealed. No one’s asked yet, but we’ll see what happens! Either way, it’s not a huge deal for me. I don’t mind having an extra one on hand if they ask for one to be sent directly from the school (if I am even admitted!). I guess I just figured they’d want proof before offering admission, but the recension thing makes sense. I was also fairly exhausted when I originally posted from spending all day on an essay.

Thanks for the input, all!
