I was suspended for five days because I was accused of cyber-bullying somebody that I have never heard of, and this suspension came despite the fact that I have no presence on social media. The person who brought this up to the school counselor said that I created a fake twitter account and then used it to target them. I obviously denied these untrue allegations however they are best friends with someone that I have a particularly sour relationship with and I feel as though this is some part of a ridiculous attempt to destroy my chances of getting into college since this person is also in the top ten of our class. I attempted to give my phone to the administration to use as evidence that I did nothing wrong but they would not take it. When applying to colleges will they believe me? I am attending NC Governor’s School this summer am the president of two clubs and have played two varsity sports all three years of high school and this is the only disciplinary action I have ever received. Will this keep me out of the colleges I want to go to?
The school administration did a terrible job of handling this situation. If I were you, I would get my parents involved to demand the administration for a more thorough investigation and concrete evidence before suspension.
Is the suspension an out of school suspension or in school? Does it stay on your high school record? If so, it could affect your chances because you have to report any disciplinary actions and it will also be noted in the high school report that is sent to colleges.
I think you can explain yourself on the Common App, but I doubt that colleges will take your word over the school’s. At this point, you should try to get the school to remedy this situation. But don’t lose all hope. I know a guy who was suspended and he still got into an Ivy. So maybe it doesn’t even matter that much in the end
I did get my parents involved but the school does not have to accept repeals for out of school suspensions not exceeding 5 days in North Carolina, which is how long I was suspended for. :
