How will this look to Penn?
I got 800 in math II, 800 in Phys, 740 in Bio (M), but 600 in US HISTORY (#RHJ#@JF(#@FJG(H$(G($HG(H$G(H$(HG$HG($H(HG(H$G$#(GH$(G$U$(UR$(RU$(RU$#UR($)

i shouldn't have taken it.

How badly will this hurt my application?

I think a lot of high school students make too big of a deal about 1-2 data points on their application…in all reality applications are looked at holistically…one average test score (or one B in a class or one whatever) will not impact you that much assuming there are no other glaring things on your application.

If you think about it from an adcom’s perspective they aren’t going to look a stellar application and then go…ohhh wait a minute…this kid got a 600 on one of his SAT IIs. denied…they will look at the application holistically say ok this person is a good fit for penn, they are smart, have great ECs, recs, etc…

A lot people think that you are being compared to other applicants directly when in all reality the way they eval apps at penn is in a committee of three people that look at the application at the same time and decide admit, deny, waitlist righ then and there. One avg test score will not put you in the deny bucket…they will evaluate your whole app and then decide…it’s not like they say ohhh this kid got 1 avg score…what about the rest of the applicants…nope they just look at your app and go from that.

I interview for Penn in my hometown and I’ve seen lots of applicants that are worried about 1 or 2 things get in no prob…from my own personal experience I would say that the biggest “weakness” on my own application was my SAT score and one of my SAT IIs. I wasn’t the greatest standardized test taker…got a 1400 on my SATs (this is when they were out of 1600 :)) and one of my SAT II’s was a 610…I still got into Wharton.

Don’t stress…just make sure the rest of your application is great…try to make yourself stand out in your essays and in the work that you’ve done and make sure you are able to show the adcom youre passionate about Penn!

Good luck!
