How willing are teachers going to write a letter of recommendation for shy quiet students?

Do you really have to have a “connection” with the teacher? I never participate in class ie. never raised my hand to answer questions. The only time I talk to the teacher is if it’s class related.

I usually get the highest test scores and grades in class, I also never miss school. Would that be good enough for a teacher to write me a letter of recommendation?

At our HS, class participation is very much a part of your grade.

Teachers are often very willing to write recommendations for shyer students. They can talk about your academic capabilities but they won’t be able to talk about your contributions in the classroom if you don’t participate. For that reason I recommend you pick a class that you have participated or gotten to know the teacher the most. It is difficult to write about someone if you don’t know them that well. Class related talk is just fine. Some teachers will ask for an info sheet or a resume so they can include more personal information, so that could be to your benefit

Forgot to mention this but my school has this booklet that students get in the office. It says “Requesting a letter of recommendation” on the front of the cover.
You are suppose to give this to the teacher you want the letter of recommendation from. Inside this booklet it tells you to list your EC’s, accomplishment, future plans and stuff.

The letters will probably be very generic, but if you ask nicely (and fill out the booklet) they will most likely be willing write one for you.

That would be helpful. I still maintain that you should get to know your teachers slightly better before you ask or at least attempt to participate more so you will be memorable by the time they write your recommendations. Specific moments are more powerful than general descriptions
