My son is a born-and-bred LA (SGV) kid. He is interested in Syracuse for the Maxwell/Newhouse schools, sports (as spectator), but wondering what the social scene is like. He is not a frat kid, and most of his peer group here are diverse.
SU is very diverse. My daughter is a freshman and each time we visit campus we see all types of students. I really couldn’t describe the students with one or two words. She has met many friends from the LA area (we are from the Northeast); the school is very popular with California students. Her friends who are in Newhouse said none of the other schools they looked at could compare to the Newhouse program. If you can, try to visit!
My son’s roommate is from the LA area. He loves SU as does my son. We are from NJ. Neither one is in a frat but they have a diverse friend group and always find lots to do.
