how would colleges view this?

hi i'm a junior and i've got a little problem. actually, no, it's a BIG problem!

you see, i've taken 6 AP's during my sophomore and junior years (no AP's offered at my school freshman year) and I've gotten all A's through all the classes. however, i tend to "slack off" a little in my other honors classes and throughout my high school career and i've gotten about 7 B's but they were all 87+. several people have told me i'll have no problem since, factoring in senior year grades, i'll be in the top 5% and all A's in AP's is great. still some people have told me it's not good, even though i'm on a very steep upward trend (i got all A's in all my classes this year). to compare, i got a 2300 on my SATs and two 780+ on my SAT II's (World History, Bio)

so, anyone want to give me their opinion on this? thanks, i appreciate it!

so what are you worried about?

6APs during soph and junior., 2300 SAT., SATII 2x 780+ ,top 5% ,all A's in APs. I don't see anything you should worry about.

I'm taking 3 APs in junior year and had 5 Bs in Freshmen year.
No need to cry, dittogal.

It is all relative to what schools you're looking at.

well, my sophomore GPA was a 3.2 so yea, i'd love to go to stanford or yale so that's what i'm worried about. plus, it's not a guarantee i'll be top 5% and i'm not even sure if i'll be top 10 at the end of my junior year so ED might not help.

i'm sorry if i sound conceited or whiney, it's just that a lot of people have been telling me im screwed lately so i was wondering if there's still a chance. thanks for your help!

arti, here's the schools im looking at:

stanford
yale
williams
vassar
brown
georgetown
tufts
columbia
rice

Your not screwed, there are many good colleges that will be happy to have you, but their unlikely to be ivies with 7 Bs in any type of classes. Stanford doesn't count freshman year so 2 Bs might be more acceptable there, but a 3.2 soph year will put that in doubt. So unless you have a hook, you probably need to focus on other schools.

what other school are in my range tho? i'm looking at either pre-med or pre-law (yea very specific huh? :D)

anyway, thanks for your honesty and yes, that's exactly what i was worried about.

well, could i get into these schools?

notre dame
u virginia
georgetown
rice
tufts
williams

thanks again!

Are you in-state for UVA or have a legacy there? If you answer yes to either one of those questions you'll probably get into UVA. Don't know much about the other schools.

For schools like the Ivies and Stanford, Bs will hurt your case but you still have a shot.

You can get into all the schools you want to apply to as top 5% will be fine. (first decile is all you really need).

Work on your essays and youll be fine.

so if i'm top 10 im cool? yeay that makes me happy. yea those essays will be my saving grace. should i apply ED to yale and williams if i'm probably not going to be top 10 in october although i will be in like december or january?

thanks for the answers so far!

Nobody knows for sure whether you will get admitted ... especially recently its hard to know at some schools. For now worry about keeping your grades high into senior year. At this point its too late to worry about what happened in the past.
