ok im a junior in high school, and i plan on going to school for engineering. The ironic thing is that i hate this priciples of engineering class im taking. Teacher is bad, and the class is basic level not advanced. We were supposed to do this big project but we didnt get the grant so its not going through. Its the second semester so it will show a W. Would that look bad? Would i have to explain myself? Im not going to just have an off period ill see what else i can take. AND i have my lowest average in that class, an 86. Its just sooo stupid... i do better in my honors and APs!

What class are you going to replace it with?

Bump…

really dont know. lol im going to look into whats available during my lunch and that period for 2nd half of the year

I think it is problematic that a “basic” class in your intended discipline is “stupid” and the rationale for you getting your lowest grade in the class. I do think this will be a red flag applying into any engineering program. Is there some way for you to raise funds and complete an engineering project to replace the one the teacher cut. Not only would this give you the additional challenge you seem to want but it would give your teacher the opportunity to raise your grade and write a letter for you about your independent engineering work.

hmm that sounds like a good idea and all but idk if im capable of that. This is really annoying me… i was expecting more from the class but we use autodesk inventor alllll the time and we do these 3rd grade level projects.

sorry to be rude, but if you think it’s 3rd grade level why are you getting the lowest grade in the class? this is in a subject that you’re saying you want to spend your life on so i would suggest sucking it up and starting to try in this class since it’s actually relevant for what you want to do with your life.

it might have come out wrong… its MY lowest average. I do like everything about engineering but it just seems like were not doing anything relevant or interesting or fun. I WISH it was a more in depth, harder, better class than what it turned out to be. Its like a glorified shop class at this point. I havent learned a single thing… except how to use a caliper and auto desk inventor.

And basically our first quarter averages were based on how we did on these dumb inventor packets… and i didnt have my dimensions “perfectly in line” and other stupid things. Last grade i got was when we had a sub… i got an 85 on a two paragraph reaction. Idiots in my class got 95s, while it was that their responses were horrendous and mine was good. Simple as that. Teacher doesnt care how people do… hes like a… “oh its not like its my life, idgaf”

Ok sorry for misunderstanding. However I still think you should try to stick it out- it might be unpleasant but dropping it will look bad and will probably be more trouble than it’s worth.

alright thanks for the insight. Im hoping my yearly average will be at least a 92… which isnt the end of the world. Since its not weighted i should be doing better… but who knows… only time can tell. Im having a meeting with my counselor about it also
