How would I fit in at NYU Stern, I'm worried

I'm an upper middle class white male from Long Island. I like watching sports, playing them for fun, and it's really my biggest hobby. I'm also a conservative, not like an old stuffy racist, but I do have a more conservative mindset than a "free-spirit"

I hear Stern has a lot of competitive kids who are just all about school all the time, and I don't know if I'd fit in with them. I mean I care about school, but I also would like to have some fun. I know there is no campus and I don't like that because I feel like I want the full college experience, and a campus is part of that.

Also do kids from different schools within NYU mix. Like will I just be with Stern kids, or will I see kids and hang out with ones from the college too.

Basically, how would I fare at Stern. Can I find some people who are serious about school, but also like to have some fun, aren't so much on the "free spirit" end, and a group of kids I can just go to a Yankee game with.

Thanks

My other options are Georgetown and Fordham.

Rule out Fordham. Georgetown and Stern are simply in another league academically. Georgetown sounds like a better fit, but some NYU Stern and certainly NYU students as a whole do want to have fun. I’m only a prospective student and have never visited so I’m going to stop there, but between my final options (UC Berkeley being the other one) I feel like NYU will have a more manageable course load and allow better time for work and social stuff. From what I’ve heard social stuff at NYU involves a lot of going to coffee shops/bars/parks and the occasional frat party if you’re into that scene (It sounds like you are (I am too), it’s different and smaller at NYU). Someone add to this because I’m probably not totally right. I’m not into sports. not very conservative (I’m deciding between NYU and berkeley lol), but I’m into having fun, getting to know people, and mixing with the other schools. Join the Stern 2018 facebook group and message me if you go to NYU. You kinda have to create your own social plan but having fun seems doable. Look into Georgetown though

I’m sure there are tons of people like you, including myself. I\m not a fan of sports, but I definetely would like to have some fun. I’ll be attending Stern this fall, and I can tell you we’re not the only ones that are like this. Some people will obviously focus more on academics than others, but I think it will be fun to be a part of Stern! As far as interaction between schools, I have no idea. Some people say you will more than likely hang out with Stern kids, but I think that it’s pretty much in your hands to hang out with either Sternies or other kids.

My D is a Sternie, Class of 2015. Let me assure you, you will have no problem finding friends at NYU. There are about 20,000 undergrads and probability of finding your comfort zone is pretty high.

So the people you meet outside of Stern are your room mates, every year you could be assigned a different one or a couple of them in a shared apartment. The folks you meet in Clubs that you join. The residence halls, the Dining halls, the Bobst library, just hanging out in Washington Square Park.

Within Stern you begin with your Cohort group in the Freshman year. Then on you get to be part of group project and Presentations for most of the Stern courses. The Core curriculum or MAP Classes allow you to meet up students from all other colleges as well. Then there is the Residence Halls lounge, the Gym, the dining halls, ongoing activities throughout the semester are so many other ways to meet up and mingle.
