How would this seem to colleges?

So the debate team at my current school isn't the best. I mean, I think we could do reasonably well at competition, but our principal will only let us go to one tournament, so we're kind of screwed. However, I am president of debate, and I handle mostly administrative duties. I organized the fundraiser, got info packets out to everyone, authored the official letter that we sent out to sponsors, kept everyone up to date on topics, etc. Would my leadership duties make up for the fact that I won virtually no awards during the first two years of debate? I plan to go to my state's math/science academy next year as a junior, and I plan to compete quite a bit as part of that team, since that school's principal actually cares more about enriching our minds rather than "FOOOOOOOOTBALLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!"

That brings me to my next question. Since I'll be changing schools, I'll obviously lose my leadership position. I would be able to explain this, right? Would it be looked down upon? Should I stay at my current school so that I can maintain leadership?

Extra-curriculars are just that, extra. Do what is right for you academics point of view. Change schools if it is better for academics. Don’t try to do something to impress college admissions officers, just do your best where you are, admissions will take care of themselves.

I’m aiming for top tier schools, so EC’s are kinda important…

Bump

Anyone there?

“I’m aiming for top tier schools, so EC’s are kinda important…”

Aren’t you the kid who wants to list his Pokemon website as an EC?

^----Thank You.

Erm…what?

I don’t have a Pokemon website.

Ironically, you probably practiced your communication skills more with your administrative duties than you would have at additional tournaments.

LOL Halogen

I dunno, I still would’ve loved to go to tournaments. I mean, they look really fun. I’m certain that my 11th grade year will be more fruitful in terms of debate, but I don’t think I can win at enough things for debate to look good on an application.

I really wanted to show an interest/focus in debate, but I guess that’s not happening :/

@ TeamRocketGrunt what type of Debat are you doing, policy or pf?

Policy. I prefer LD and policy over public forum.
