how would you compare the following three schools computer sci program:
Drexel
Pitt
Stony Brook

I’m not sure about Pitt vs. Stony Brook for undergrad, but Drexel is definitely a cut below the other two. Stony Brook is the best for grad school.

As far as Drexel goes, its expensive unless you get a substantial merit award. So, if you have high SATs/GPA it may be cost effective. I can’t speak to the computer science program personally, but I’ve been impressed with Drexel generally, and I know a sophomore there who is very happy with the computer engineering program. The coop program makes Drexel unique vs. Pitt and Stonybrook. You get real world work experience that helps you get a job when you are done.

Pitt, however, has that dandy May to August summer, so a student could have a four-month long internship. Pitt has a short break between semesters, which makes for a loooong summer.

Pitt also has a great coop program for the Engineers and CS majors. Some students coop spring semester and return to classes during the summer at Pitt.

You can co-op any term (Summer, Fall, or Spring) in engineering at least. It’s nice because a lot of the departments recognize this and will offer many of their classes year-round instead of only certain semesters (and the ones that are can be taken out of order).

According to grad school rankings, Stony Brook is first, followed closely by Pitt, and Drexel is way behind. Not necessarily indicative of the undergrad experience but data nonetheless. One additional plus for Pitt is proximity to CMU (#2 ranked) and their joint programs and centers. I’d say you can’t go too wrong with Pitt or SBU.
