how would you compare the following three schools computer sci program:
Drexel
Pitt
Stony Brook

How are all three schools pre med undergrauate compare against each other???

I can’t say anything about Pitt or Stony Brook, but I was a CS major at drexel last year. Their CS department is very good - for upper level classes. The freshman CS professor is pretty terrible. He’s a nice guy, smart, and kinda funny, but he’s flat out awful at teaching. The lectures are in huge lecture halls with ~300 students packed into it, with the professor showing code through a powerpoint without showing you much application of said code. The homeworks are long, and the labs are sometimes frustrating. Also, the exams are ALL paper and pencil only. No computers, no notecards, etc. Every little command and the syntax of everything must be memorized.

Now, with all that said, if you’re serious about computer science, you’ll learn. It’ll be hard, but you will learn a lot. I’ve transferred out of the school after my freshman year (couldn’t afford it anymore), but I’ve heard from friends that the sophomore and pre-junior level classes are all very interesting, taught in small groups, and very rigorous.

Thanks avanish11 - did you graduate from Drexel last year…how was their coop program; did you find it hard to get placement (especially in the company you wanted) or was it a simple process…and were you able to find employment after graduation…Also, did you live on campus or commute?

Thanks!
