How Would You Define Extracurricular Activities?

I go to a tiny school in a rural city outside of the US. Our student body consists of about 200 students and classes range from preschool to 12th grade. The school is below average with regards to academics, but it pretty much sucks when it comes to extracurricular activities. We had a school magazine - once - and aside from that, when our school gets a visit from the Ministry of Education, the senior-most students are bullied into making billions of posters in a very short amount of time so that the inspectors get a good impression.

Those aren't very spectacular things to list on my app, so what else can I add? Reading, writing, helping around the house - those are the things I do outside of school. Like I said earlier - rural city... not much to do around. I need a scholarship and extracurriculars are important. Any advice?

Doing chores isn't really an extra curricular lol. Try getting an internship or starting a club. If you're a senior right now, then I have no idea :(

LOL, I know.

Internships are a big no-no - they don't even give kids summer jobs here.

Starting a club would be a little hard... I'm the only student left in my class (all of the others have had the good sense to get the hell out)...

MimbleWimble- it probably wouldn't hurt you to describe your situation. It seems like it's difficult for you to find any extra-curricular activities at your school, and that's not under your control, so you might want to explain that (or have your guidance counselor explain it). But, could you start a club with students from other classes?

Also, keep looking for activities to do outside of school. I know you said you can't get a real job, but what about volunteering? If there is a church or synagogue anywhere near you, they probably have some community service activities you could participate in.
