We hear and read over and over that admissions looks for leadership. Class president, club president...those are obviously leadership roles, but what might be some less obvious, or untitled leadership roles that might also count as leadership?

My opinion only: the single most important area where your leadership is demonstrated will be conveyed by your teacher or employer/mentor letters of recommendation and not on the drop down menu of the common app.

Why? Because it’s easy to fudge the importance of “President of inter-faith-model-robotics-language-anime-habitat-booster-UN-key-LGBT club”

But does your teacher or boss or research mentor say you affect others around you positively? Are you an opinion leader? Do you TRULY care for the welfare of others or rally them to a mutual goal? That’s leadership that matters. And those will be mostly captured in LOR anecdotes; more than your EC list or resume.
