How would you interpret this?

D just got a call from her #2 choice college admissions office. This is the second time a college has had a question about her transcripts-idk if her school does confusing ones or what. I think it’s because D is graduating early, so the timeline is non-traditional. In any case, the person asked the question, D cleared it up, then her caller said, “Well, GOOD. I wouldn’t want to accept you if you aren’t going to be able to attend!”

Does this mean D is likely to get an acceptance soon? I wish D had asked that directly. She’s gotten verbal preliminary acceptances from at least two other schools that turned into real ones. Or do you think it just means that she’s in the running?

Guessing it’s exactly what you think it is - not many transcripts have only three years on them. If they were planning on rejecting her they would not have bothered to call.

She is at least in the running.

I actually think it is better that she didn’t ask! Don’t want to come across entititled.

Most schools wouldn’t bother to call unless they are interested. I think she got a better chance than most people.
I know at my kids’ school, if an adcom were to call it was a very good sign.

I would say the are interested because if the application was heading to the “trash bin” I doubt they would call. that said nobody can really know outside of the person who called and maybe their boss.

It’s hard to tell from what the admissions person said. I think the comment was a little insensitive because it was sort of tantalizing. It probably means they want to accept her, yes, but I wouldn’t count on it because that little joke could have just been misspeaking, and might just mean “good, she is not disqualified.”

I’d say it means she’s still in the running.

definitely in the running!!
College admissions offices wont take the time to call during their hectic admissions marathon unless they were really interested in her.

I agree that this can only be a good sign. But I wouldn’t assume an acceptance is definitely coming because multiple people read application files and presumably you don’t know where this file was in the chain of readers and decision making. But it certainly seems to imply that that particular admissions officer was ready to endorse it.

My son applied as a junior, and he got calls about courses and intent. I definitely those calls as a positive.

I too think it’s a positive. Do tell if she gets the fat envelope.

Agree-- why would they call unless they are interested?

If I were a betting man, I’d bet she’s in.
