I do recognize the words i learned from Barron's word list (could only bring myself to read one third of the book..), but they are not MY words, if you know what i mean. Like when I write i won't think of those words immediately and use them. I think the vocab section compels many students to memorize words off lists. It's a very passive and ineffective way to learn words, esp in the long run. Like i can't even remember 80% of the words i read from Barron's already.

IMHO if it's called Critical Reading just put all passages for students to read! slot in difficult words as they are used in those passages --> guess meaning in context kinda thing :D

The only people i know with 800 CR are either very very good at literature and English, or very insanely hardworking. The latter still do badly at English in school, so how does that score reflect the level of competence of their English?

I think i'm suffering from a CR backlash due to the 4-5 vocab mistakes that i made in the Oct test.. (oh yes! It depends a lot on luck for this particular section. Like in the may test i only made 1 mistake - miraculously) lol but i do think vocab section should be scrapped.

Personally I think anything above 2100 composite and >700 CR for internationals is very good :D Congrats to everybody

I'm confused - when you say internationals are you referring to those who live overseas, or are you referring to people who live in non-english speaking countries... cause yeah.

and I really hate the vocab section, although it has really helped my english essays haha, using BIIIIIG words now :D

"Internationals" = English is a 2nd language people :D

Well whenever i go through colleges webisite. I see that Writing scores are usually sidelined and the sum of C R and Math score are shown in the average scores of its accepted students. I got 670CR, 730Math and 760writing.

I got a 2120 (M 780, CR 700, W 640)

My writing really sucks... but do you think that elite colleges(i.e. HYP, UofC, etc) may cut the slack for int'ls who've NEVER lived in English speaking countries?
(I mean, it'd be unfair to compare the CR/W score of a British int'l student vs the CR/W score of a Colombian student...
