i need serious ADVICE!

how should we all do it guys?

i need serious ADVICE!

yea me too, i need to study all this week for it and i have no clue on how to approach it! I dont really take sufficient notes so i cant look back on em.. i dont really wanna reread the textbook xD

Go over old tests, homework and notes, reread parts of the textbook to remind yourself of or clarify concepts that you have trouble with, talk to teachers about problems you don't understand, etc.

make flashcards for vocab words.

Get a study group together.

That's what I'm doing for calc.

And also decide like what you can kind of blow off and what you REALLY need to study for and then plan accordingly.

try to google for some outlines of your book, you'll be surprised at what you can find. i also always go over old tests.

If it's an essay, think about what the prompt/question might be, and do outlines of various scenarios.

Get together with friends and quiz each other. Especially in tougher subjects (ie math, foreign languages etc.).

I'm lucky...I only have 1 midterm that's an actual multiple choice test. ^_^ For my English class I had an essay and for my Philosophy class we have a group project. YAY SENIOR YEAR.

For most classes I make notecards. On one side I put a topic heading (e.g., classifications of diseases, or colonial morphology) and some notes, and on the other side I write review questions. My French exam is an essay and we were given the basic theme (imagination and childhood), so I'm reviewing vocab words related to that theme, as well as transition/structure words. My Calc class doesn't have a midterm (I know - ***?) but if it did I'd re-do all the tests and quizzes from earlier in the year and use those to figure out where I needed to review.

well here's what i'm going to start as soon as i finish my post

AP Calc - work on HMMT and Stanford Competition calc problems. supposedly the only real challenge on the midterm is the bonus. might review exponentials but i know all the necessary manipulations

AP Physics - work out the hardest few questions in each chapter, read the chapter for the abstract concepts (E & M)

AP Compsci - do AP MC packet, go over coded assignments, work on the book 175 MC problems in java

AP Gov - nothing
AP German - review vocab
AP Lit - memorize poetry devices, review reductions/sparknotes to fit books to prompts

Similar to snipez, here is my game plan!
H. English - presentation, simply practice!
FRench III - memorize all words, transitions, reread historical sections, look over notes
H.Algebra II - since practice makes perfect - do all review questions a couple of times, review any formulas
AP Euro (my hardest class!!!!!!!!!) - answer/understand all review questions, reread any unfamilar sections in book (i.e. wars which are confusing, couple sections on Napolean)
ADV Computers - none
Chemistry - memorization, hardcore :), already did review packet! yay

i'm going to be doing this for the next two weeks...

Math 3H: Reread each overview, take each review and test over, do& redo each review question, look over Math B review book if necessary
Physics H: Type out review sheet (we reviewed all concepts in class for about three weeks-ridiculous and too much time but I'll just condense it) and then reread notes, take test
APUSH: my teacher gave us 200 MC, and every question is from that, so I'm typing out all the questions and answers 2x, and every missed question 2 more x in addition
Theology: Re-read notes, re-read Acts if I have a lot of time left on my hands
AP English: it's just a Regents, so I'll review some literary books for the second day
Latin 3H: type out all vocab (done), study vocab, study last chapter and practice going from english to latin

i'm going to take hpa10's advice and see what i end up with. that sounds like a great idea, & i'll see and let everyone know if it's successful!! =p

OHHH MY GOSHH!

for my history book, there is a website that has powerpoint presentations that are class lectures and downloadable graphic organizers!!! for each chapter!!! this is great because my history teacher doesn't teach!!!!! thanks hpa!!!!!!!!

^ Your welcome. Also, I find that this website ( UCCP Open Access ) has really helpful videos for APUSH. I can't comment about all the other stuff because I didn't sign up for them, but you should definitely see if they have videos for a class that you're taking. Some other cc'er recommended this site a while back.

my teacher came up w/ a schedule for studying. we have 3 days of testing (2 midterms per day), and we have a 3 day weekend before the break. so,

Fri- get materials together, organize everything
Sat- 1, 2, 3
Sun- 4, 1, 2
Mon-3, 4, 1, 2
Tues- 5, 6, 3, 4
Wed- 5, 6, 5, 6
the numbers obviously refer to the number the midterm is. for example, my first midterm is math. i am going to study that the first thing on sat, the 2nd on sun, and the 3rd on mon. this system allows you to study each subject at least 3 times. feel free to study plenty of more times of course.

as for specific subjects i'm taking:
calc- i make flashcards on how to do each problem, then i redo the problems on past test/probs we did in class numerous times
history- huge study guide w/ lots of defs, outline some essays
physics- this whole year has been one giant review, so i really dont have to study, per say. but go over some formulas.
spanish- go over stories i read, make a verb sheet for the tenses i learned

i'm not really sure how to study for english. it is by far my worst subject, and i haven't gotten over an 88 on any semester exam so far (i got as low as 78 once)

btw, study groups work really well as long as you don't get sidetracked.

I made up a study schedule for the next two weeks. It alternates between English I Honors, Biology, and Spanish II, with focus on Spanish and Bio, because I'm not worried about my English grade. I think I'm going to try to get a study group going for those Bio and Spanish, also. Agh! I really should go study los verbos para el examen en la clase de espanol, porque no quiero estudiar.

No clue why (pre-emptive summer studying? LOL) after I started taking AP classes, midterms were cannon fodder. I havent studied for a midterm in 2 years (not that it matters for this year, only taking 1 midterm as it is lol).

I have really bad study habits. I study everything the night before... :P Yet still am able to get a B or higher....

APUSH - No final!
Early Brit Lit - Prepare notes for the open note, all essay test
Spanish 3 - Not worth studying for; too easy
Orchestra - Practicing, numbering music
AP Stats - Going over entire book, doing review packets, memorizing formulas, etc.
Chemistry - Preparing index card for test
