Billy, I believe it is easier. I remember seeing people being rejected from Fall but accepted to summer.

Oh, okay. Makes it even more odd.

Here is how I understand Summer B vs. Fall vs. Spring.

UF makes its admissions decisions and then looks to see how to place you for start date. The strongest candidates get Fall unless they requested Summer B, and then they get their request. Once Fall is filled, the weaker candidates get Summer B. Then whoever is left gets Spring.

So they way it works out, the Summer B students have lower GPAs/Test scores, but they may have requested Fall on their application. Requesting Summer B doesn’t make it any easier to get in, but those who are assigned Summer B have lower GPAs/Test scores than the Fall admits.

How long have you lived out of Florida?

34 ACT and in-state.

I’ve been accepted to Northwestern and rejected from UF.

The admissisions process is so arbitrary.

Wow.

^ that blows. 25 ACT OOS and accepted.

^ Are you serious? Did you have a hook or something?

I’m just so confused as to what the admissions criteria are for UF.

I still can’t believe myself.

I am the old man in this chat. I was admitted to UF waaaay back in the fall of 1976. Back then it was much much easier to get into UF. It was not a guarantee. In my high school we had 16 students apply to UF 3 of us got in and everyone else either went to FSU or to a CC.

Fast forward 35 years and in my opinion what we have is a situation of simple supply and demand. Too many want in and there is not enough room for everyone.

Yes you can make a 34 on the ACT and not get in. If your ec’s and essay are not excellent you are not going to U of F.

Thats the facts folks.

UVA I really dont think you not getting in has anything to do with you or your credentials. I would call admissions first thing Monday and get to the bottom of this.

And remember this: everything in life happens for a reason. I know you youngsters dont want to hear such BS. But it is so true. So make that call and if it doesnt work out and find yourself another great school.

No hooks man. My SATs weren’t great either. But im top 8% in my class of 650 kids, took hard classes, was a part of many extra curricular activities and had a crazy amount of community service hours so i guess standardized test scores aren’t everything.

norules031 - you’re right! I had a 1070 r and m and I only took 3 ap classes. but I got in. Test scores aren’t everyting (:

Does the fact that I’m applying out of India make any difference? (I still qualify for in-state)

At this stage nitcomp, who knows. We just got owned.

norules, will you be paying full OOS tuition?

Most likely, I just have to see if I get any financial aid and if I win any scholarships in my high school. Im a finalist for a $60,000 scholarship so that would be sweet

I screwed myself for UF. I put down that I had prepaid tution. I should have just applied without it, then let them know I had it. Sigh - epic fail.

Ok, I was disappointed when I didnt get in to UF, but reading this thread just really makes me mad. Kids have been getting in with like 1500-1800 SAT scores and I got a 2200 and a 35 on the ACT. My grades were a little below what they expect, but not by much. Taking 3 AP classes this year too, and always had a hard schedule every year.

I’m fine if I dont get into a college, but it has to be for a good reason. When the reason is that I live in California, I just get mad.

And norules how the hell did you get in with a 25 OOS? This is the most random thing ever.

Stop complaining

I cant help it. If i was given a reason, then I could stop complaining. But there is literally zero logical explanation for why I was rejected. I wish in the letter they could write a sentence or two about what was wrong about your application. I just want to know why.

It’s not the most random thing ever when I said before im in the top 8%, part of a varsity team, tons of extracurriculars, tons of comm. service hrs., all honors/ap classes, great essay/recomm. letters, etc.

^^ you’re OOS, UF is 97% IS, that means you had Ivy league chance of getting into UF, meaning very little.
