Howard BS/MD 2014

Did everyone receive their results?

It has been almost a month since interview… nothing yet!

@lex9542 you did BS/ DDS program correct? I thought I remembered you posting that they had a different schedule and you might not find out until close to the start of the fall term?
If I am mistaken and you did the BS/MD interview, I would call and ask if they could maybe email your decision if it has not yet come via mail. Good luck!

Does anyone know when the BS/MD orientation is?

If I make a Facebook group called "Howard University BS/MD 2020 will you guys join if you have accepted the offer?

@omhs23 I don’t have facebook but I’d probably get one for a bs/md group. I wonder how many of us there are?

@med2serve I think they said the orientation would be after move in and that we would not have any orientation or need to come to campus before regular move in and orientation. But I think we register for classes when we go to campus earlier in the summer for regular orientation, so I don’t understand how we do that if the bs/md people have not told us anything about what we are suppose to take!

Are any of you guys going to try and do activities in the fall? I was thinking about something in the arts (choir, jazz choir, etc.) or maybe intramurals but wonder if I will have time. I wish they would send us something telling us what they want us to take first semester and what other obligations, aside from a monthly meeting, we will have for the program (do we have to do any shadowing or volunteering or anything?). Well, it is only June so maybe we will hear more once they have the final list of who accepted a spot.

@unclear Okay I made the group. I was wondering about choosing classes too because I think we have to meet with an advisor before

@unclear‌ Hmmm… yes, I applied for BS/ DDS program; after calling the office, however, my interview date was moved to May 7th.

I guess I’m the only one who haven’t received result yet :((

couldn’t find the facebook page. did you make it public or are you gonna send us a private message with an invite?

I made it public, if you search Howard University BS/MD 2020 you should find it

Called and they said bs/md orientation dates have not been set yet, but that it will be held right around the time classes begin.

On a different note, does Howard provide accommodations during regular orientation? If so, does that include the guests you add on the online form?

I am a little bit frustrated because how do we know what to register to take if we don’t have the orientation before? I assume that someone will help us during regular orientation this summer?? Well, they have been doing this program for a long time, so I guess I should just relax and remember that they know what they are doing. I have heard that they pay for our overload classes, but not our summer ones and scholarships we might have from Howard don’t cover summer school, just fyi.
@med2serve for the 3 day orientations this summer you are given accommodations on campus and they provide bedding. Just bring clothes, toiletries, etc. They said there are very limited accommodations for an adult coming with you, first come first serve. But they give a list of hotels.
I might come alone or my oldest sibling will come and will stay in Alexandria at a hotel and just take the train in for parental orientation events as needed. Hotels are less expensive there. My parents will come at move in.

@unclear @omhs what were your stats?

Anybody active on here still? I have been MIA myself as I try to enjoy summer and not deal with this much.
omhs23 and med2serve have you gone to orientation? I am going to the last one at the end of the month. Was it worth the early trip to DC?

futuremd15: 33 ACT, 4.7+ weighted GPA (not sure of unweighted). Did not submit my SAT (ACT was stronger). Some APs. Lots of leadership, but not much medical experience. Good luck.

Edit to above post: I intended to TAG @omhs23 and @med2serve and @futuremd15 in the above post, but forgot the @.

Hi- Congratulations to everyone who got accepted to this program! I am considering applying this year but want to know the stats of the applicants. Could someone give me an estimate of my chances? Thanks!

Gpa- 3.8
Act- 27 (retaking them)
Lots of extracurriculars (including that I will be a certified and working EMT in September; lots of medical work on the veterinary side)

@sheep47 I dont think I can give you an accurate estimate of your chances because I dont have enough information about others who got into the program, but I will say that extracurricular s are great, especially your EMT position. If you have time, consider volunteering at a hospital or nursing home. I would suggest working harder on your academics and your ACT scores especially

Late- but congratulations to everyone who was accepted!

I want to apply to this program and I wanted to know my chances too:

32 ACT -taking again
Planning for 700+ for BIO SAT II and MATH LVL2
4.29 weighted GPA (I don’t know unweighted)
Volunteering at hospital, shadowed cardiologists etc, president of volunteer organization at school

@sheep47‌ @mbbdoc‌ be sure to work on your essay writing, esp. for the program essay, and know that this program is geared towards creating doctors who are willing to serve the underserved.
