Anyone going there applied to the 6 yr program. I got in and im deciding about it.
Its not the best university but its only 6 yrs!!

you got into howard?
Congrats!
If u don't mind..can u post ur stats? ^^

@guitars_girls

What residencies are you trying to get into? That should be one of your biggest factors when deciding on something this big.

I never heard about this program. Howard University 6 year program with what medical school?

@melodiekid- pm me

@afruff- residencies? isnt it too early lol...im not even in med school yet

@ivybound-howard med school..its pretty good

Getting into any medical school is good. Howard medical school is not great. That's why I said you need to decide what residency you want to get into. Going from Howard's 6 year program will make it a bit tougher to get the more competitive residencies.

can u please put up ur stats. im a junior right now in NY planning to apply to howard. my primary interest is primary care medicine.

also is there a deadline for testing? can we send standardized scores after the application is sent in?

thanks =)

@afruff well i did consider that and spoke to people who graduated from howards med school and the program and they say that it actaully is a gr8 advantage. Howard being howard has an amazing rep. Even though the college is not one of the best its highly respected and i have friend who after med school is now doing a residency in anesthesiology in chicago(take that for good residency).

@guitars_girls

There will always be a chance of getting into good residencies from any programs, but if you're average and go to a good program, then you ahve a better chance.

Can anyone enrolled in the bs/md program chance me:

Considering my stats and the fact that I'm an "asian" international student with an American Citizenship, which universities(With the particular program) would be realistic for me? (Do I have a chance to get into Howard bs/md?)

guitars_girls, first off, actually afruff23’s question is a very good one to have the answer to BEFORE you enter the program, so I advise that you not blow him/her off just yet, bc you initially think the question is silly. Remember, once you’re in the program, you’re already set with respect to where you are for medical school, hence knowing what type of physician you might be (primary care vs. subspecialty) is important with regards to which medical school is right for you. This is especially important with respect to what opportunities are available at that specific medical school to expand your CV when you have to apply for the residency match. If you’re at a school that doesn’t have much opportunities in a field you wish to pursue, you will be at a severe disadvantage. This is esp. important with the amount of Howard’s annual tuition of 36,781 per year.

What did you think those Howard alums were going to say? They’ve graduated already and matched, any complaints legitimate or not tend to disappear after graduation. Not to mention, no one likes telling others I made a mistake in choosing an institution for one’s education. Hence why it’s important to ask those who are actually IN the program now, preferably in the middle as they’ll be best able to tell you how well the school’s curriculum is, how well it was with respect to board preparation, etc.

By the way, Howard doesn’t have an “amazing” rep - not even close. It’s actually one of the lower tier schools as they tend to have lower board scores as they tend to accept people who have much lower stats - bc they want people who wish to devote to working in underserved areas: [View topic - Chances of Howard Medical School? • Medical School Forum](http://www.studentdoc.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=11085)
Also, one person getting an anesthesia residency in Chicago (which is one of the easier specialties to match into) doesn’t mean anything - that could mean anything from Northwestern all the way down to Cook County (both are in Chicago). There will always be some exceptional data points off the curve. The key is to look at the trend.

@MD2B2012 - So would you be saying that those who do Howard’s B.S./M.D. program would not turn out to be satisfactory doctors?

That is not at all what I said nor did I make that assertion. Please read my post again.
