Howard University *CLASS OF 2018*

@westofguam you should call too and ask them if they received anything from you because most of the time there’s something wrong between common app and colleges. But yeah I would call…

Westofguam: From the AA student thread and fly ins, I remember that you are a NA or NM semifinalist, right? Well google Howard and Laureate Scholar. It says:
“Don’t forget, the application fee is waived for Semifinalists , and your application is given special processing. If you do not have a designated Semifinalist application, please contact us and we will get one to you immediately!”
Call admissions and ask for the contact guy (I think it is Mr. Scott). If you don’t get him, as for another counselor who works with NA kids. I did this and they told me not to use common app. I had to use their app and they do waive the app fee for NA semifinalist. Since you already used the common app, see what they can do to push you through now OR just do their app (easy one).
I would not say a word about the common app issue until you get to someone that deals with NA applicants. They were clear with me that if you make finalist then whatever other award you might get now will be changed to the huge Laureate scholarship. So be sure you get on their radar. And if not Mr. Scott they should give you a personal contact. PM me and I can dig up the woman who processed mine and told me more about the NA scholarship stuff. She was SUPER helpful and professional (and rumor has it that you can’t count on that at Howard!)
If all else fails, have one of your parents call.
HSG

Hsg thanks for all the info but sadly I’m only NA outstanding participant (I’m still grateful for that although I wish I knew that so I could’ve avoided taking the SAT, worst four hours of my life!). I’ve called Howard a bunch of times and they keep giving me this “stay calm, we’ll call you if something’s wrong” answer. I want to listen to them but I can’t stop worrying, lol! The notification date is coming up so I’m nervous ya know?

Anyways good luck everyone! I hope we all get in. What other colleges are you guys applying to?

Albany state university
North Carolina Central university
Clark Atlanta uni
And of course Howard U.

Applying to:
A couple of Ivy Leagues, Brown is one.
Several LACs where I need to get in AND get $ (these are my TOP choices)

In at Fordham and a couple of HBCUs already.

Howard because of the great merit aid (which you will get Westofguam, with your stats) and considering the combined MD program.

HSG

I applied to Howard, Spelman, Kentucky Wesleyan, and Berea College. I wanted to apply to more and some Ivy’s but I could’t afford app fees so every school other than Spelman and Howard were free app.

I applied to 7 schools. These are listed in order I want to attend

 1. Howard U
 2. Spelman
 3. North Carolina A&T
 4. University Of Cincinnati
 5. Hampton
 6. Ohio State University
 7. Ohio University

Howard University

University of South Carolina

University of Alabama (Accepted)

North Carolina Central University (Accepted)

I’m applying to 25 colleges…not gonna list them all @__@
I’ve received acceptances to about seven of the UG programs so far though. The medical schools don’t give out their decisions until months later so yeah :)

I’ve applied to Howard Georgetown Fordham and UChicago so far. I’m so nervous/excited for results because I don’t want to have to send out another 7 apps for RD. Greensage 25 schools? That’s so many! Are you almost finished with them?

25 schools?! Oh my…wow lol

yeah all my apps are in except for Harvard (applying RD so I have till January 1st for that one. However all of my other applications are for the 7 or 8 year medical programs so there is definitely a level of competitiveness for admission that makes up for the app number (like I already know I’m not getting PSU/Jefferson, Rutgers/NJMS, or TCNJ/NJMS). I’m thinking I’m more suited for the Drexel programs though so looking forward to those interviews.

What’s your first choice school? @GreenSage

In terms of med school, Im pretty interested in drexel…
In terms of UG though, RPI all the way!

Greensage,

You should pass on applying to Harvard since RPI is your safety school should you not get into any of the BS/MD programs. It is not worth the added cost in money time and emotional capital. I passed on many schools for the same reason.

Just a friendly advice.

Best of luck on your applications.

Have any of you visited Howard yet?
I applied and everything and i’m really excited to find out if I got in, like all of you are but I’ve heard that Howard’s facilities are not the best and that the university is running low on money so that has really turned me off. I know that going to Howard would be such a great opportunity/ experience but i’m thinking taking an actual visit would help me better form my own opinions. Any thoughts???

You should visit lol @ohwoahyay

lol yeaaa @GrayJ96

Did everyone get the FAFSA email from Howard?

@A1Everything I did!
