Howard University Class of 2020!

Do I just accept my Presidential Scholarship by signing it online or what?

@nedcone did you check the link I provided above? Its either there, or you go to your bisonweb portal

@nedcone I also remember that my D had to do an E-Sign to the scholarship that came to her personal email. Check there as well. Dot every I and cross every T. Be sure to also read and make note of the requirements to keep the scholarship (GPA, number of hours you must take, FASFA requirement, etc.).
Another note: For my D and others that came in with Presidential and Founders, many turned down Ivys, U of Chicago, Duke, etc. to take the full ride and thought they would coast the 4.0 train (and be top leaders, etc. then onto a top graduate school). To some degree this was true first semester or even first year, but by sophomore year keeping a 4.0 (the goal to leave wiggle room for the 3.5 required) was not a done deal. The further they got in their major (especially for science and engineering it seemed) the tougher it got…and it keeps getting harder. Doable for sure, but keep the work ethic you clearly have already to have gotten the grades and scores needed for the Presidential. Congratulations to you!

@partyof5 Oh, it was on bison web. I already signed it before asking about it, but was wondering if there was anything else physical I had to send as nothing has updated for me on the financial aid section.

@ReturningFavor Thanks for the advice.

@ReturningFavor that is excellent advice. There are a few kids that have had to leave junior year after not keeping the gpa to maintain the scholarship. Freshman and Sophomore years, were pretty easy, but once you get into your major its no joke.

@Nedcone Howard is just molasses slow. I dont think my daughters scholarship was applied until August last year.

Founders is a complete full ride right? Because I checked my bison web and I wasn’t sure how to interpret all the aid stuff they sent me

@nedcone screen shot your scholarship and print it out, I advise. It never hurts to keep hard copy records in dealing with HU. Also, as @partyof5 said, you may not see the scholarship applied against all of your charges until the semester starts. Do follow up on your book voucher. I think there is a specific person in charge of those in financial aid/business office. The bookstore manager can key you in on that if you go and find that your voucher in not active in their system yet.

And yes @partyof5, the higher level classes get harder and, frankly, the kids that make it that long are not generally the ones that are (or ever did) look at college as party time. So, it is not as easy to stand out as the stellar student.

For all attending, keep copies of EVERYTHING! I dont mean just the things related to admissions, I mean everything, papers you turn in to professors, etc. Trust me.

@Nedcone same thing here. I signed it but it is not updated on my portal.

When do we need to give Howard our final transcript??

@Hopeful42020 Ive never sent the final transcript for any of my kids, the high school should send it out.

@partyof5 through common app or by mail?

@Hopeful42020 I am not sure, how they are sent but I know weve never sent one in.

@partyof5 ok thanks!!

Another piece of advice: Make copies of your AP scores and take them with you, and also have them sent to Howard. Don’t panic if you don’t see the credits on your Bison web at the start of the fall term. Wait until the hoopla of drop/add settles down and you settle in (perhaps late September) and then just take your copies to the Registrar’s office.

@Brajia I believe the Founders is tuition, fees, room, board and the book voucher as it has been in the past. Fees are covered except for some random fee (can’t remember the name). I also don’t remember if lab fees are covered. As @partyof5 posted earlier, the amounts for each part of the award will eventually show up on Bison web for you to accept. But it may not be for awhile yet.

For you and @Nedcone and @Hopeful42020: Unless it has changed, if you get a less expensive meal plan than the one they pay for, you do NOT get the monetary difference refunded to you. My D left several hundred on the table in choosing a cheaper meal plan. Same with the book voucher-if you don’t use all you do not get money back. Get the full meal plan they pay for, and use your voucher to the last dime. If you don’t need it all for books, grab pens, paper, a stapler, etc. You each worked hard to get your scholarship. Use it fully!

@partyof5 and I each have a child still at HU. If you need information, please ask and what we don’t know hopefully one of us can find out. This can be a daunting change, especially if you don’t have anyone to reach out to. I found LOTS of help on CC for my oldest regarding his entering freshman year at another University and want to help others now. Ask away.

Regarding AP scores, my daughters were not added until she met with her advisor during summer orientation. The advisor substituted her psych I believe for something else, which was appropriate. She was then given a paper with her AP credit, it took a while before it was displayed in bisonweb. Soooo, dont throw away the paper!

How long before they update on your bisonweb after you sign their scholarship acceptance contract? Also, is there any way that they notify you of the receipt of enrollment fee deposit and housing application fee deposit? Oh and they told me I still needed to give financial resources forms and my high school stuff. I have sent the former today via DHL but for the latter, I have only finished IGCSE O level yet which is equivalent to grade 11 in US academic terms. So, will that affect anything for my time there?

1 more question. For an international student, is there any cases of them changing an already offered scholarship amount after they receive the financial forms? Thanks so much in advance guys and gals.
