My dd also received her acceptance email Friday night…

Sorry @yochill2021

When do you find your decision if you apply RD?

Congratulations to all of you accepted into HU! Our D turned down top LACs and an Ivy for HU and has not regretted it. While the admin an be a bit messy and the facilities sometimes lacking, the sense of family, alumni connections, locale of DC and opportunities, history, commitment to service, and connections are wonderful. She came from a PWI private high school and this was a big adjustment, but one she has welcomed and learned from. Our son did not choose HU and has been happy with his choice as well. Visit, think through it all and choose what works for you.

Best of luck with your choices. @MSHopeful feel free to message me if you have any parent specific questions. We are now on child 3 with college stuff with a couple more to go. BTDT!

DD got the Presidential Scholarship. Got the email tonight. So excited!

Very happy for your D and your family @MSHopeful ! My D has a full ride and said not having to worry about money has been a HUGE blessing. We send her money each month for spending money since we have not needed to tap into money we put aside for college. We preferred that she not work during the school year because her job is to keep her scholarship. Keep this in mind as the GPA requirement must be met. She said it was not overly hard to do in year one, but it does linger in your mind that you cannot mess around.

The only other real expense has been flying back and forth from home on breaks. Also, use up every bit of the meal plan dollars. Unless it has changed, if you drop to a lower meal plan than the scholarship covers, they do not refund you the $ you are saving them. Use it or lose it. Same with the book voucher. Again, congrats! Whether your D chooses HU or not, it is a blessing to know that the option is there. Hopefully they will do the HU scholars visit in the spring. That clinched it for our kid…a weekend with the other scholarship recipients, tour of DC, activities on campus, meetings with professors and housed with students. They stopped for awhile with this, but hopefully it will start up again.

@ReturningFavor Thanks for the advice. I do worry a little bit about the GPA requirement but hopefully it won’t be an issue. I hope they have a scholarship weekend. If she chooses Howard (and yes, knowing we have this option is a huge relief and blessing) I can send her a nice allowance and traveling back and forth to/from CA will be much easier.

Scholars weekend was eye opening. She had no real intention of attending HU before that time. It was a safety and even with the scholarship was down the list on her choices. But at the visit she felt at home. Done deal. Best of luck to you, @MSHopeful

Hey pals, this is my first post in his thread! I had also applied EA to Howard University, and, fortunately, I got in. As per the requirements, I deserve the Founders scholarship.(My stats are 4.0 GPA and a 1480 SAT) . However, I have been awarded the capstone scholarship. Is this some kind of technical problem, or is it the actual scholarship that I have been granted. I have emailed them regarding this. So, will they reconsider me for the Founders scholarship? Reply from experienced pals shall be appreciated.

Congrats to everyone accepted!! Please, visit if you have a chance. I was dead set against attending HU until I visited.

@0000yo0000 Scholarships are no longer automatic, so even though you meet the requirements for Founders you may or may not receive it.
