I am an aspiring CE major pondering whether or not I should go to Howard. I've gathered that jobs in this industry are almost exclusively experience based, so getting a masters is, in most cases, useless. So does where I go to undergrad matter? I am in a situation where I could go to Howard for free, no scholarship required. The problem is, it seems its school of engineering isn't even ranked. I've been looking around and found the rankings from 2010 and it was 111th. As an alternative, I could go to a third tier school (UMD) and get in state tuition. Does which school I go to matter as much as the opportunities and internships I fulfill while in school?

Howard does have ABET accreditation for various engineering majors:
[Accredited Programs details](http://main.abet.org/aps/AccreditedProgramsDetails.aspx?OrganizationID=389)

However, the full rides that I know of that Howard gives are conditioned on maintaining a high enough college GPA. Does that apply to you?

UMD refers to what? University of Maryland is not necessarily a “third tier” school.

What you may want to do is find out who comes recruiting for students in your major at each school’s career center.
