Howard University Karsh STEM Scholars Program (KSSP)

@ChangeTheGame would you copy me on that PM you sent to JCarter20199? We will have prepare until otherwise told not to. Thanks.

@trob71 I have sent a PM to you as well… I am really pulling for the CC families going through this process. Please keep us informed of your journeys and good luck.

@ChangeTheGame good evening, i am a finalist for the bssp and was wondering if you can send me the PM about potential interview questions as well. Thanks in advance!

@tinyturtle888 PM sent. 8 Days from the start of BSSP Selection Weekend! Hopefully, you will get some time to enjoy Washington DC and the Howard Campus before getting to work and becoming a Bison STEM Scholar. Howard has not been perfect, but I have seen so much growth in my daughter, especially when it comes to believing in herself.

@ChangeTheGame Thank you for being so generous with information. The advice you’ve given in this thread alone has been very helpful. My daughter is excited about this opportunity, and so am I.

@ChangeTheGame is AWESOME!! With everything that is going on surrounding college admissions and the scams. All of the students who’ve been accepted to HU on their own Merit are already winners!! Whether they get into the BSSP cohort or not… Wishing everyone the best of luck next weekend!!

@ChangeTheGame my child was selected for the scholars weekend so we would also like to review the questions as well. Thank you!

I want to say thank you for all of the nice words. I am sure they will change up some things so please pass on your knowledge and pay it forward as this year’s students go through Selection Weekend and go on to become Bison STEM Scholars.

@CollegeReadyKids Sorry I missed PM’ing you. That has been taken care of. Good luck to your child.

Good Afternoon @ChangeTheGame my daughter has also been selected I’ve been following the post and thank you so much for creating it. Can you please send me the information regarding the interview process?

Good afternoon!

This post has been very helpful. My daughter received the letter stating she was selected as a finalist on 2/23 and she RSVP’d immediately; however, we have not received any follow up information on the weekend details. We have emailed and called last week; however, I read that they were on Springbreak. We hadn’t made travel arrangements yet because I wasn’t sure how the weekend would flow until finding this post and comments. I’m going to go ahead and book travel in hopes that we hear something Monday. If anyone has any tips for transportation to the school or most convenient airport, any info that would help me in getting her prepared on short notice would help. Thanks for all the information shared on this thread!

@kodi736 and @MrsHFreeman I have sent a PM to both of you.

@MrsHFreeman When it comes to actually going to Washington DC, the easiest Airport to get to Howard is Reagan National, but you can also fly to either Dulles International or BWI (Baltimore-Washington International) Airports and get to the campus about an hour to 90 minutes depending on the time of day. Reagan National is in Virginia right next to the Washington DC border and is how I prefer to fly my daughter back to school since it is only about 7 miles from campus. Driving in Washington DC is never fun, but you have plenty of options to get to the school (Uber, Lyft, car rental, taxis) depending on what housing arrangements you make. The closest Metro station is the Shaw Howard Metro station which is about a 12-15 minute walk to the heart of the campus so you can get to the campus without actual transportation if you make arrangements close to a Metro line (I personally would not use the Metro if you have a lot to carry but it is an option).

@ChangeTheGame thank you so much!

Still no word in either direction. Have made travel arrangements anyway based on input from this chat. Will try and call on Monday.

Can you please PM me on what you sent to @JCarter on what questions to expect at the selection weekend. My daughter is a finalist

@ChangeTheGame would you copy me on that PM you sent to JCarter20199 on how to prepare? Thanks.

@veejay3. Tried locating the podcast but wasn’t successful. Can you please PM me a link to it? Thanks

@deejay19 Welcome to College Confidential (CC). I have sent you a PM. CC will not allow a poster to attach a Facebook link and I am not sure they would allow the link to the website with the podcast link either. That podcast is a window into the thought processes of the Bison STEM Scholar director and is definitely helpful. The easiest way to actually find it is to go to the Bison STEM Scholars Program Facebook Page and scroll down to the July 2, 2018 post which is a link to a School Match 4U Inc. podcast. If you click on the title YCBK21: How to Know What Your Family Can Really Afford for College | Your College-Bound Kid it will take you to the podcast and then skip to 31:26 minute mark of the podcast where you will hear the Bison STEM Scholars Director talk about the scholarship and the program. If you still can not find the podcast, you can reply to my PM and send me an e-mail address to send you the link to the Podcast. Good luck to your daughter and your family.

Just found out my daughter was a finalist, but inadvertently left off first email listing. Got a lot to prepare but thanks for all the information.

I hope this is the case for me … still have heard nothing back and have tried contacting them.

Congrats to your daughter!!!
