My daughter got an email a few hours ago. She was selected as part of cohort 3. Thanks to everyone on board who were part of this journey. Hope we hear more good news on this forum
@deejay19 Congratulations on the great news to your daughter and your family.
@deejay19 Congratulations!
Hi @deejay19 what was your student’s intended major?
Biology to MD/Phd
Can you send the PM list of Bison interview questions. My daughter will apply for next year
My daughter wants to apply for next year. Can you please share your daughter’s stats?
Congratulations to those that received emails! We didn’t hear anything yesterday but since the letters for interviews went out in waves we still are holding on to a little hope. What a wonderful program to the students who did get emails and get to participate
Congratulations to those who have been accepted! Thinking back, my daughter did not even know she was a finalist until the Tuesday before Selection Weekend! The key is she has not been given a decline email either. Walking in Faith has worked so far!
For the Finalists who haven’t heard back, Keep the faith, because last year they gave the 1st group until May 1st to decide and they definitely offered the Scholarship to more students. In fact, someone in my daughter’s cohort changed their mind in mid to late May to attend Howard and they added another Scholar for cohort 2 a couple of weeks before the summer bridge program . I am not sure when they actually did the notifications for those not selected, but I know it was not on my daughter’s April 15th selection day.
@“drpena@austin.rr.com” The average stats for my daughter’s cohort 2 group were as follows: (3.8 UW GPA, 1371 SAT avg., 30 ACT). My guess is the stats will go up some for cohort 3, just like cohort 2 had slightly higher stats than cohort 1.
My daughter just found out she was not selected. She is disappointed but this is a teaching moment. Her mind has not changed about Howard and her major. She has become even more determined to be the best neurosurgeon/researcher ever! Thanks for this thread. Could not have gotten this far without it.
My daughter did not get selected either, but she is okay with the decision. The prep process, interview process and the weekend meeting other students was a great experience for her, so we don’t feel like any of our time was wasted. She’ll still be a HU Bison in the fall and she is excited about that, for sure. Thanks for creating this thread, very valuable tool.
Hey everyone this thread was very helpful and I’m glad I got to experience Howard and all this program has to offer. I was not selected either but I want to thank @ChangeTheGame and anyone else who helped answer my questions. But on a happier note The Ohio State University has offered me a full ride scholarship so I’ll be attending there in the fall. I’m very excited to be a buckeye and if money wasn’t a determining factor I would definitely be attending Howard. So thanks once again to everyone and good luck to cohort 3!!!
@trob71 and @veejay3 I am so sorry about the final results, but I am so happy that your children are still coming to Howard. I can honestly say that my daughter has grown so much that she is hardly recognizable after this 1st year and the thing I have worried about the most with her (truly believing in herself) is no longer a concern as she continues to grow into a confident, capable young woman. I believe that Howard is mostly responsible for that growth.
@whyamisogood Congratulations on such a great opportunity at The Ohio State University. That is just awesome. A good portion of my family are Michigan fans, but you are forgiven:)
@whyamisogood Congratulations and best wishes to you at OSU!
@veejay3 @ChangeTheGame Ha! I appreciate the forgiveness. Thank you all so much !
Just to encourage everyone to not lose hope just yet. We are considering declining my daughter’s acceptance offer into the Bison program to pursue another great offer she has and may be someone from this group’s child might be invited from the waitlist
@deejay19 I am not sure what the other offer is, but it must be incredible! Got to give your daughter her props!
@trob71. I sure will. Thanks. I really cannot be more proud of her.
@ChangeTheGame I can’t thank you enough for starting this blog. It has been a tremendous resource to me and I very much appreciated the positive and encouraging words from all the families! My daughter has also been accepted into cohort 3 and as a Howard grad I could not be more pleased! I know every student will land in the right place!
