So I applied to howard university as a transfer student and i'm majoring in nursing. the nursing program requires a 2.8 gpa. My cumulative gpa as of now is a 3.0. What do you think my chances are of getting in?

Hey Candymama I just applied to Howard as well as a transfer nursing student. I have a 3.53 GPA I’m so anxious to see if I get accepted or not. What year are your currently (freshmen, soph., ect.) ?

i am currently a sophomore. i’m hoping i get in. my application just went under committee review, whatever that means. what year are you?

I’m a freshman my application says complete and ready for review. I called them yesterday and they told me I should have a decision in two weeks I’m so inpatient though lol. The only thing is HBCU’S do not give a lot of aid -_-is Howard your first choice?

they told me that too, but my application is now under committee review, im going to call them today because im impatient too and they are driving me crazy. but you should get accepted with that gpa. my gpa should be high as yours but i messed up my first semester. howard wasnt originally my first choice, i wanted to go to north carolina chapel hill but its way too expensive so now i want to go to howard.

I hope I get in, I hope you do too :). But do you think you would like going to a majority all black university? I mean I love my ppl and all, but I’m just thinking. But if u hear anything keep me posted. And good luck!

A few years ago, I applied to Howard University’s Transfer Student Admissions for the 2005/2006 school year. Despite having a 3.5 GPA with good recommendations, the school never replied to my application status. Everytime I called the school, I always got a busy signal. This was one of the worst experiences that I had with the school. Perhaps they don’t like community college students.

Wow, are you serious? You paid your application fee and everything??! That’s crazy. But yes, calling that school and getting through is definately a pain

@JerzPrincess513:
I always wanted to go to an hbcu because i went to majority white schools growing up. i have nothing against going to white schools but i just want to learn more about my people while getting a good education, thats why i want to go to howard.

@redlinekid2:
thats crazy, but they will give me an answer even if i have to take a trip to howard lol.

now my application says "processing"so I’ll keep you guys updated !

Hi Candymama, I got my acceptance letter to Howard Nursing Summer Program as a Transfer student in early January. My GPA was a 3.56 but it is possible to get in with a 3.0…U should really be patient with admissions because they take forever…I applied in November 2010 to be considered for early decision and it took me a month to get my acceptance letter…all i’m saying really is to be patient!

@Sammie , congrats !

So is it a definate that you will be going there?

@heureuseSammie:
that is great, congrats on your acceptance! did your application go to committee review? mine went to them around valentines day and now its march and its up for review. hopefully it doesnt take much longer because if i do get accepted i have to hurry up and get housing. what year are you? and did all of your credits transfer? im supposed to be a junior next year but there is a possibility that i will have to start all over again, i hope that doesnt happen because i will be in debt forever! lol.

@jerzprincess513:
any updates?

@candy, girl that school is a trip ! i called them last week because my application has been in “processing” since forever. When i called they told me they haven’t recieved my transcript. I was so mad because it does not say that online. I sent my transcript out the next day though, so hopefully that will be updated this week, how about you?

p.s they need to hurry up before housing becomes filled smh :-/

@Jerzprincess513:
Thank you, any updates on your application?

@Candymama:
Thank you as well, my application did not go through committee review but it still took them a month for the application to even go through “processing”.They were claiming that i never sent my recommendation letters…I think that we can all agree that Admission’s A MESS!!! I will be entering as a junior, and yes, they accepted all of my credits. I recently graduated from a community college with 68 credits and all were accepted.

P.S i really suggest that you and Jerzprincess have your physical and your Immunization forms complete prior to your acceptance in case you do get accepted (hopefully, am really praying for the both of you) because once you get in you will have to submit these forms before they can consider you for housing…SO MUCH TO DO IN SO LITTLE TIME! :(

Hey Candymama, any updates?

@jerzprincess513:
its been mad long since i’ve been on here lol. but i didnt get in,the thing is i dont know why. i meet the requirements. when i find out i’ll let you know, i plan on applying for the spring semester, and i should get in then.but to be on the safe side i may change my major to get into howard and then switch back to nursing and if that doesnt work, im fighting somebody at howard, it can be a mascot, cheerleader, a dean anybody lmao. j/k

hi all,
@ candymama
am sad to hear that you didn’t get in i really hope that you get in for the spring semester. why do you want to change your major? and would you be entering Howard as a junior in the spring?

@heureuseSammie: i want to change it because i may have a better chance of getting into another field if my gpa still isnt good enough for the nursing program, then once i think its high enough i’ll switch back once im already a student at howard. i’m supposed to be a junior but i may be a semester behind since howard has more pre-requisites than the school im at now. i really feel like i should get in this time though because i think i ended this semester with a 3.7, i wont know for sure until next week.

@candymama: i really wish you the best of luck…i hope to see you at Howard in the spring. i will already be in the nursing program by then, but we can keep in touch while am up there. :)
