Howard university theatre or dance major

Finally I made an account so I can post my own personal questions instead of trying to find someone who’s in the same place as me. OK so I’m a junior in ny and i attend a private school (I’ve heard that’s somewhat of an “advantage “ when applying I’m really not sure) and it’s my dream to attend Howard (I’m aware that’s a lot of people’s “dream” I’m not oblivious to how competitive this school is) I only want to major in dance or theatre arts administration. I’ve been on the website to try and find out if I’m in a good place regarding gpa and extracurricular activities (I know they look at that pretty heavily) so here are my stats. Also yes I know it’s only the the first semester in school and I still have the rest of the year and haven’t taken SAT yet but I need some sort of guidance so someone please help me out

• 85 average for freshman sophomore and so far junior year ( That may be a 3.4 or somewhere around that I’m not sure)
•only have one failing grade on my transcript which was my chem regents but I passed the second time around
Two Years On varsity cheer (co-captain)
•two years varsity track
•two years on my schools dance company
•dance ambassador for my dance school (traveled to Africa twice)
•student - council member
• shadow ambassador (I take new students around the school and give them a feel of how my high school is in hopes they apply or transfer there

Someone please tell me if I’m on the right or just say something I’ve been putting so much pressure on myself and I’m very lost

It looks like you are on the right track. Keep your grades up this year and I would recommend taking the SAT as soon as possible so you have a baseline and have time to take it again. I have two that have gone through the process, one a dancer, and my best advise is to keep that dream but still pursue backup schools. You will feel less pressure going into the process next year if you keep your mind open to other possibilities and apply to atleast a few other schools for safety. So feel confident you are doing a great job and it will all work out.
