Howard University

I am an Asian International Student. I got into Howard University with full scholarships. However, I am considering whether or not to attend. What do you think about the uni’s quality? I have read comments about the school and had somewhat a mixed feeling. People seem to whether love it or hate it. And many comments refer to poor quality facilities and faculty.

Howard is one of the top HBCUs in the nation (if not the top). However, relative to all schools it is well-known for its HBCU status, though not prestigious. I don’t think you should be worried about going there, but what are your other choices?

I’m not from the US and so I googled Howard University. There was an NBC Washington article yesterday titled “Howard University Cuts 84 Staff Positions.” Just google it and I am sure you will find it. Likely something you should be aware of when making your decision. As I mentioned, I had never heard of Howard University before today so I can’t comment on what is reported in the article. However, if you were my child, I would at least be asking some questions of the school. Maybe someone else on here has direct experience with Howard and can shed some light on the situation.

Congrats on your scholarships and good luck with your decision.

Finance-wise, I would go to howard next year. Is it possible to get a scholarship to transfer to another college from Howard? I’ll definitely cherish the moment I have in Howard but I aim for the best academic experience also.

Facilities (classrooms, student center, libraries, gym) I would rate as good. I don’t like the stadium but whatever. The gym has new upgrades as well as Founders library. There are also two new dorms on campus with plans to renovate the Towers. The bookstore just got a new renovation and there is a new science center opening this year.

Professors–well that depends on your major and department. I really didn’t like any in arts and sciences but I enjoyed all of my professors from the school of communications.

When were you notified about the scholarship ? Does it come along with the acceptance letter ?
