I'm applying next year, I'm wondering how you out of staters did with the tough admissions. Post stats if possible.

I got in from new york
1330 SAT 32 ACT
700 US History
660 Writing
630 Math IC
620 Biology

95 unweighed and 97 weighed

great extracurriculars including national competitor in karate
good essays

Everyone said i had zero to no chance but it worked out very well for me. Good luck next year

I got in from Oregon.

He failed to mention that he is also African American (stan).

I know that AA is not supposed to play a role in admissions to the UCs, but in this case, how could it not?!?

He has lower (though still very good) stats than many people who applied and were rejected IN STATE. I just don't understand it.

I, for one, applied and was accepted. However, my best friend was rejected. She has a 1570, is the salutatorian, and is the president of our class. She also has published research in the field of psycholinguistics. (BTW- she holds residency in California due to her divorced parents, and thus was in-state). She deserved this so much, and then she just gets rejected. It makes ABSOLUTELY no sense.

You're kind of making some unfair, subjective assumptions.

And I really don't think the UCs take race into consideration.

Geez, someone sure is bitter.

You guys have to realize that scores alone won't get you everything. I also maintain the belief that you can't be a "plugger" because colleges don't want someone who will just get work done -- they want someone who can add to the college environment. It's very subjective. If anyone is curious I am white.

From Alabama

GPA: 4.0 UW 4.4 W
SAT: 1420
SAT II: 760 w 740 iic 730 c
Rank: none
Essays: I guess outstanding. It was a "risky" essay...
ECs: lots of leadership, state honors.

applied for engineernig school.

there was absolulety no way they could have known my race. i did not put it in my essays and i also did not mark it for scholarships so my race played no part at all unless they are psychic

If you don't mention it in your essays, then race could not have been a factor. UC blacks out the race of the applicant in accordance with proposition 209 passed in 1995.

Therefore, your supposition that race played a factor ini Stanmaster's acceptance is unfounded. In short, you're wrong.

female from Arizona

stanmaster: ignore the sour grapes. Congratulations on your admission! Knock 'em dead at UCLA!

Stanmaster had a lot of what are my chances posts, and I always told him that he had a good shot. Some great EC's there, like being a national competitor in karate. UCLA puts a lot of emphasis on EC's.
