how'd you guys do on the math placement exam? and i already have hw points???

i just took the math placement, got an 80%...
does anyone know what kind of math this will place me in?
im hoping to place into calc.
and i was looking at the pages after taking the exam,
and it says i already have hw points for some math class w/instructor gavin.. something?

I don't think the math placement distinctly places you in one math class or not, it is simply a gauge for your academic advisor; you will probably end up taking whatever you want anyways. I will tell you that the purpose of the test is to see how prepared you are for calculus, and 80% tells me that you're pretty well-prepared, so yes I think you will place into calc. I got a 44/45 (Their answer was actually wrong on one question so I e-mailed them and they fixed it) but I'm going to be a math major so I guess that's expected or whatever. I'm sure you'll be fine. As for the homework points...I don't know man, I've never heard of that before. Sounds cool though.

Hey chibearsfan, how did you know what you/they got wrong on the test? I thought it was like "Here's your score. Click here to get out."

I got a 42/45 and want to know what kind of stupid mistakes I made. But the test was more basic than I thought it would be. I just took this test now, so I'm assuming they fixed the test like you said.

Yeah they fixed it a while ago. When you were done there was a button or something that you could click to go back and see which question(s) you got wrong and what the actual answer was. I did it and realized their answer was wrong so i was like, that ain't right. it's all gravy now though. Congrats on the 40+.

I just took my test today. Was pretty easy but I was alittle rusty since at my high school we had accelerated block schedule and hadn't been in a math class since December. Got a 37/45 82.22%. Wish I would have done better. Oh well. Just hoping that I don't get placed in Calc 1 since it sounds like a weeder class.

You'll be placed in calc. 1. I was placed in calc. 1, and I scored worse than you did on the placement exam. However, I took calc. 1 in high school (did well) and haven't covered the stuff that was on the exam in over a year and a half. Extremely rusty... Plus, I'm horrible at algebra. ;)

However, I'm taking stats. 350 instead (My advisor recommended it for me). In my case, that move makes more sense. I'm not a hard core math and science person and am much more interested in social sciences and the humanities. However, if I decide that I don't like it, I have three weeks to drop it and switch into calc. 1. Highly doubt that that will happen though...

43/45 here, I really hate tests where you can't see what you missed. What was the answer to the question that listed 5 equations and asked which ones are functions? I put all but I'm now thinking that the y^2 + x^2 = 25 (or something like that) isn't.

that's the equation for a circle

They must have different versions of tests because I didn't have that one on mine.

sub 40% here, haha. I finished with like 25 questions to go cause I'm so damn slow. But I'm in Calc 1 anyways cause I aced precalc in H.S, and the math advisor tested me on the spot with a few questions and I got em right :)
