How's Columbus?

I am going to be moving to Columbus for my first job, I was wondering what you all think of Columbus as well as if you have any recommendations on where to live?

Thanks!

Columbus is great. Experience Columbus can assist you in finding things to do - Columbus, Ohio Travel Guide - Hotels, Attractions, Dining - and you can stop by their Visitor Center at 277 W. Nationwide Blvd in the Arena District to pick up their Visitors Guide and other publications that help you get acquainted with the city.

As far as where to live: Columbus has a bit of everything. Arena District has great apartments - rather pricey (as Downtown living is). German Village can be pricey as well, but it's my personal favorite area. Some relatively good deals can be found in Victorian Village (between Downtown and OSU). When you see something listed as "Campus Area," be careful because not all of campus area is ideal for living. Of course, there's the suburbs. I'm not big on suburbs, though.

Message me if you would like any other info.

Columbus is a great place to live. Regarding living- it depends on what your're looking for. There are nice apartments all over town and in the suburbs. Condos too. My husband is a realtor and if you're interested in a condo he could help you. IT is a buyers market right now.

Even for non-students, the University District is a viable option. There is a variety of housing stock, most of it beautiful 1910s-1920s era large brick houses with original woodwork and front porches. The neighborhoods just east of High (between Chittenden and Frambes) have predominant student populations. However, the University Districts extends all the way north to the southern border of Clintonville (another good option--one of Columbus' earliest "streetcar suburbs" that surrounds High Street south of Worthington) into historic districts and owner-occupied neighborhoods.

University District: Welcome

Welcome to Clintonville

South of OSU on Neil/High through Victorian Villiage to the Short North is a gorgeous area. But very pricey. It was always one of my favorite parts of the city.

Great! thanks for all the suggestions

I should also mention that if you prefer suburbs, Columbus has some great ones - Dublin, Hilliard, Gahanna, Pickerington - all newer suburbs and Upper Arlington (a bit older) all great for young families or anyone who prefers the burbs.

Westerville is like a small college town - but it's actually an east side suburb, and Worthington north of OSU has a similar feel.

In town, the villiages (German, Victorian, Italian) have been mentioned, the Short North is artsy, and the University area is, well, university-ish. On the east side, Bexley is an old money neighborhood which still has a city feel.

A bit out of town are smaller towns like Delaware, Granville, Reynoldsburg, Canal Winchester, Lancaster - all with their own feel and all an easy commute into the city (20-30 minutes or so, tops, depending upon the traffic). If you like smaller town life, check some of them out.

Speaking of traffic, Columbus definitely has a rush hour, but compared to other cities, it's pretty reasonable. The major roads are new, wide and well designed. If you have any experience with other cities' traffic, you will find Columbus to be much better. Busy during rush hour, but manageable. At other times, it's a very easy area to get around in.

Actually, I have found Columbus to have far more attractive areas than otherwise. It's hard to go wrong. Best to jump in a car and go roaming. You'll like what you see. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions. I've lived in several areas around the city over the years (although I currently live about 2 hours away).

Good luck.

My sister has lived in Columbus 3 times in her adult life (transfers by her company). Each time, she has lived on a different side of town and loved all three. You're sure to find a spot you like too! Sis's favorite place was Dublin of the 'burbs, and she just got married in the German village area.
