How's econ in Georgetown?

Hi, I got into Georgetown college, and I am planning to major in econ.
How's econ in Georgetown?

I also got offers from wash u, vandy, tufts, and UCLA, but haven't quite decided yet.
I know that IR is very strong in georgetown, but not so sure about econ programs.
(even though I heard that georgetown's overall social science programs are great.)

So if anyone knows, please help me.

Well, my first-hand experience is that Ccon at Georgetown can be very challenging - I did fine in my first three SFS required Econ classes (Micro, Macro, and I-Trade), but ran into something of a brick wall with the fourt (I-Finance). The strict grading curve restrictions for lower-level classes don’t help. Having said that, the Econ department does a good job of offering lots of tutorial sessions even beyond the regularly scheduled recitations. They know it can be a tricky subject and go out of their way to provide support.

In terms of being an Econ major, there’s some real doozies as far as difficulty goes (Econometrics and Econ Stats are two of the most notorious classes at Georgetown). It is definitely a very rigorous program. Going along with the whole international emphasis, there are a ton of internationally-minded course offerings, which is pretty much a necessity in the era of globalization. For Fall 2009, for instance, these include: International Financial Markets, Assessing US-Japan Economic Relations, European Economy, Econ Devel of the Mid East, Development Economics, etc.

The economics-related internship opportunities in the DC area are also unparalleled.
