How's HKUST ??

Hey guys , Wats your opinion about HKUST (Hong-Kong University of Science and Technology)

There has been a discussion of over 10 threads and 10,000, if not more, comments on HKUST on those threads! The best ones to visit are:

 1. HKU or HKUST
 2. going to HKUST fall 2010!

You shall find answers to all possible questions on them…

U know,it will be very hard for we mainland students get there,HKUST awesome, but the location is not so good, not like HKU or Hongkong Chinese University Even Baptist.

you are right it is hard for the mainland students to get there, its unfair but can’t do anything about it, its just because of the number of good applicants applying to overseas programs from mainland China…
HKUST has a beach on campus, its isolated yet bang next to the central city, good weather and soothing sea breeze helping combat the oppressing humidity in main town… Less pollution and vibrant campus… Sounds pretty awesome to me…
HKU is in the middle of the city, with bustling traffic and noise. The campus is fragmented into diff building far away from each other due to lack of space, so you are studying in buildings not even a part of the Uni !! Not soo inviting … CUHK has nice campus though

I used to be a professor at HKUST. It is an excellent place in a beautiful location. It’s not for everyone, but certainly a strong and rising university in Asia.

@drmamontgomery- Sir,why exactly is it not for everyone?? are the courses too demanding??
and what is the future of the University looking like in your opinion?

drmamontgomery: I have the same question as Anand. I’m giving up Imperial and Georgia Tech for HKUST, and am sure its prfectly sensible to do so keeping in mind the amazing potential of UST, would you say the same ?
The only thing that was worrying me were the future (postgrad) opportunities in US after undergrad from UST and after some research it seems thats not an issue at all !

@drmamontgomery: Hey, I’ve got the same question as Anand and Sarthak above…please reply
How is HKUST compared to other unis you have worked at? What are the possibilies of getting admission into a postgrad course at a top uni with a bachelors from HKUST?

@Nikang. HKBU’s campus isn’t as good… the entire school is in one large building…

Hey I am an Indian student from New Delhi and want to apply fr HKUST. I have gaped a year i.e. I passed CBSE exam in 2011 with percentage of 87.2 in12th grade and 89.4% in 10th grade. I have about 10-12 certificates(about 4-5 are big impact ones) what chances do I have for B-engineering in Electronics/Mech/Electrical?? I also havent given the SATs but I easily qualify for their English requirements. Btw I had missed the deadline last year so I sent an E-mail reply of which, was negative by the admin but Prof. Matthew Yeun(Head of Dept. MechEng) said that he would be glad to accept me but couldn’t convince the admin. Also tell about the financial aid/scholarship on the basis of these.
