for all you IB students?

Just wanted to know..

In the case of me, It's taken more away from the lack of a social life than I already had.

what exactly is IB>? i saw this on a college application

IB… International Baccalaureate. International Program based in Geneva Switzerland that attempts to deliver a well-balanced education across multiple areas, including the Social Sciences, Experimental Sciences, Mathematics, Your Natural Language, an alternative Language, and the Arts.

Most people attempt to do IB Diploma

which is taking classes in 6 of those areas, and then taking exams in them senior year.

With the addition of 150 Hours of community service, a TOK class, and a 4000 Extended Essay

I’m still shocked that the EE is so short, even though I found out like 2 weeks ago.

so anybody can do that or just people not in the US? is just like a different form of a high school diploma?

Actually, the number of hours for CAS don’t matter anymore, so long as you reach the learning outcomes.
We just mailed off our final TOK essays and World Literature papers this week.
My social life is pretty decent, actually. I think playing sports helps a lot, maybe not with creating homework time, but with building friendships with people outside of that IB bubble. Some IB kids have the best social lives. It just depends on how much you’re willing to not do your homework or not study.
I can finally say that my body has fully adjusted to the lack of sleep. It only took about two years, but, it’s finally there.
Tests are already in two months. Yikes.

pierrechn, yes, it’s like a different form of a high school diploma. However, it’s only offered at IB World schools. IB World schools are either public or private high schools. Wiki has a list if you’re that curious.

I really don’t agree with the “IB takes away my social life” thing. I think people who feel like they have no social lives just use IB as an excuse. Nobody is studying ALL THE TIME.

I’m coping better than I thought I would, barring the fact that I started crying as soon as I walked in the house yesterday. But that was more due to the fact that there were people in 4 of my extracurricular activities getting p*ssed at me at the same time for varying reasons. I guess that’s the side of CAS people don’t see.

@herr0174 - since when do you not have to have 150 CAS hours…? The latest version of the IB curricula says that you still need 150 (50 in each) and now you need to write about what you did during those hours at least once a week.

[YouTube - Do ToK](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJOO8Jx8OpI)

IB is turning out to be better than I expected SO FAR. knock on wood But of course, that could be because I am not working as hard as I want to be. I hope I manage the entire course well. It’s been pretty interesting too, except for my TOK classes which are a BORE but because I don’t like my teacher’s teaching style.

at the social life thing, I study 90% of the time. But everyone is already in the BS mode freshmen year. And yeah I do my extended essay in 2 years, 4000 words is short to me.

and that Do ToK is absolutely hilarious. All the IB Juniors hate Group 4, even though the snow canceled their presentation. And they love CAS, and go over so many times,

I think the guidelines have been changed for the class of 2010.

“The guideline for the minimum amount of CAS activity is approximately the equivalent of half a day per school week (three to four hours per week), or approximately 150 hours in total, with a reasonable balance between creativity, action and service. Hour counting, however, is not encouraged.”
– Creativity, action, service guide. Published March 2008. IBO guidelines for students graduating in 2010 and thereafter.

The learning outcomes are the only things that matter:
“All eight outcomes must be present for a student to complete the CAS requirement. Some may be demonstrated many times, in a variety of activities, but completion requires only that there is some evidence for every outcome.”

I’m in the c/o '10 and ours doesn’t say that =/
It just says that we have to keep a weekly CAS log now, and we’re the first class to have to do so.

Wow. Our Class of 2010 and 2011 don’t have to do that.

for our CAS, we just give a 3-5 minute presentation with minimal paperwork. it’s absolutely great. IB says tht schools can now choose how they would like CAS as long as it fits the IB requirements, which is a pretty diverse way of presenting CAS.

Wow… my school does it the hard way.

We have to fill out two-page forms for our activities every month! If you forget, too bad, those hours are gone. I forget every month. Sweet.

^^^ HATE. HATE. HATE. HATE. HATE. We have this whole online system where we have to fill in which of the learning objectives we’ve satisfied, how we’ve done so, and evidence for whether we’ve achieved it.

My school does that too. Even MYP does it. I hate ManageBac
