How's it looking for me? Penn, Duke, Stanford, Princeton

Hey everyone!

Thanks for taking the time to look at my thread:

This year, I applied to Penn, Duke, Stanford, Princeton, UNC (oos), Pittsburgh, and PSU. So far, I have heard back from Pitt, PSU, and UNC (all having accepted me).

I would like some comments on my chances at Penn, Duke, Stanford, and Princeton.

I am also taking an English course at my local community college.

(out of school)
I am an active web designer who has volunteered his services to promote the development of the community. I have created several sites for local non profits, including the Rotary Club and an interfaith peace organization. I am also currently involved in making a portal site for all 34 clubs at our school as part of my independent computer science project.

I am also actively involved in fighting drug & alcohol abuse. I am a leader on a multi-county advisory board that has met with legislators, enacted a methamphetamine waste cleanup campaign, and provided pro-active education to children.
I also volunteer bi-weekly at the local hospital.

Leadership positions:
President of 150 member NHS
Treasurer of the class
Student Council Rep.

Misc. other info: I wrote about how going to the Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week program changed my outlook on life, and how having been an award-winning CEO, I wanted to pursue a career in business. I also attended the PA Governor’s School for Information Technology where I was involved in a health informatics research project aimed at providing first-responders with secure, wireless data feeds.

My brother is currently attending Princeton University, and majoring in Chemical Engineering. He is doing pretty well there.

I applied regular decision to all of the schools, with a major in the business field. Please let me know if there is anything else you would like to know, and how I may fare? After having an interview with Penn where the interviewer began the interview by saying that getting in to Penn is nearly impossible for someone in my area who isn’t a legacy.

So, if you could give me ranked %’s for Duke, Penn, Princeton, and Stanford, I’d greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

I'm not so sure about %s, but I'd be suprised if you didn't get into at least 1-2/4 that you want.

Did you apply to Wharton?

How can you not get in? you look like a true, certified genius. You have a million Ap's, good GPA, ( whats a weighted GPA anyway>) and a million extracurriculars. You guys always get in.

haha agattack. thanks for the kind words, but unfortunately, when 20,000 kids apply and only 2,000 get in, it's not that easy i think.

amptron2x, yep I applied to wharton.

o and btw agattack, weighted gpa means the value of my gpa when honors courses are factored in (we get 10 additional points added to our class averages for honors courses....but, these are obviously harder classes)

Wharton's very tough...

Penn (Wharton) - 30%. If it had been CAS, I'd have said 50%.
Duke - 40%
Stanford - 20%
Princeton - 20%

Now note, for all of the schools I'm saying you have above average chances. All four schools have an admit rate of about 10% RD, so I think your chances are pretty good compared to the rest of the applicant pool. I expect you'll get into at least one, maybe waitlisted at another.

hmm, an award winning CEO, thats awesome dude.....

i dont think this in anyway changes things, but I have played on the tennis team (singles and doubles) since freshman year. This year I also started doing track.

I'd be happy at any of the schools that I applied to, so really, even if i were to not get into any, i'd still have a great time at UNC.

Duke looks good. The others are just a crap shoot.

just would like to bump this for some more input.......and to update that I am now a National Merit Finalist. Is this something that I should notify the above schools about?

Yep. Absolutely. Probably best to have your school guidance counselor do it. Or, if there's some kind of official notification process through the College Board, do it that way.
