Hello! I am a ccc student planning to TAG UCSC for next fall 2016. I’m from San Diego and have never been to Santa Cruz but I’m planning on touring the campus next month. I know that college is what you make of it and I plan on getting involved with clubs and organizations, but I’d love to hear about some experiences people have had there! My main questions are is the campus life fairly active? Is it more of a commuter or residential school? Does it feel isolated? Any insight is greatly appreciated
The campus itself is beautiful. I have friends that go there, and they all really enjoy it. I think there are plenty of clubs to get involved in - judging from Facebook posts, campus life seems pretty active there. I’m pretty sure it’s more of a residential school than a commuter school. I’m not sure if it feels isolated - you can always take the bus to the town of SC, or take a bus to San Francisco for a day, and so on. There are plenty of things to do there, and you’re in a really great location.
It’s a really great school that was my first choice in high school. The campus is probably the most beautiful out of all the UC’s (at least in my opinion).
That’s great to hear that your friends like going there! All of my friends stayed pretty local to SD so I don’t have an idea of what it’s like up there. Thanks for the response, it was reassuring
Yeah. It’s really nice over there. There is a lot of drug use at UCSC, but I’ve heard that it’s not completely unavoidable. That deterred me, but it may not deter you (as there’s drug use at nearly every college to some extent).
It looks beautiful, I can’t wait to visit! I’ve heard it’s pretty “stoner-friendly” but that doesn’t really bother me. Unless you mean harder drugs? Because that would definitely be a con in my book.
I think it’s mostly the former, but yes there’s definitely use of the latter. Granted, there will be use of the latter at just about any college. If you don’t mind the former, you’ll probably be fine.
