Hows my schedule?

Hi guys, I'm probably going to be a CS Major in Engineering, and trying to plan my schedule for my first year. There seem to be a lot of classes that I want to take, but I'm not sure how to plan my schedule. Let me know what you think of this (assuming I take credit for Math 1910 and CS 1110). I would like to take only 4 real classes per semester if that's possible, I'm a little scared of the workload.

First Semester:
MATH 1920
PHYS 1112
ENGRI 1200
FWS (Idk which yet)
ENGRG 1050
PE (Idk which yet)

Second Semester:
MATH 2930 or 2940
CHEM 2090
CS 1132
FWS (Idk which yet)
PE (Idk which yet)

Is this ok? Any suggestions? Also do you know which is better between Math 2930 and 2940 (Linear algebra vs Differential Equations) for second semester? I guess it says pick one... Lastly, do you recommend taking Intro Physics or Chem first? I'm a bit better at physics so I thought it would be easier to adjust to college if I took it first.

Thanks again for your help!

tldr; Is my schedule ok?

I might go to ilr this fall, am still deciding. But you should really be careful when making ur schedule. I heard engineering in cornell is one of the hardest schools out there. So if i were you, I would maybe take it easy for the first semester to get adjusted and learn the system. Also, im sure most kids on here would be opposed to this, I would retake a math class like calc 1. Youl get an easy A and it will be one less class to worry about for your first semester. gl

slurmz, where can I start planning my schedule for the fall? Can you give me the link?

transfer9858, +1
I will take it easy for the first semester. I’m pretty sure I got at least a 4 on BC Calc but I still want to retake calc 1… Usually, I’m a little slow in the beginning so I need time to adjust to the new environment.

I thought about retaking calc, and also for CS 1110 cuz it was pretty much self-taught at my high school. But to be honest I’d be bored and I did really well in the classes so it wouldn’t be worth it to take them over again i think.

that’s the point, there are other subjects I’ll have to worry about like FWS…and math will be one less thing to think about

schedulizer.com is where folks can make their schedules before actually doing it on the Student Center. I find it to be really useful and time-saving.

I can assure you that Calc I is not an easy A. In fact, Calc I and II tend to be a lot more work than they need to be. 1920 though is actually multivariable for engineers. It’s quite different from 1110, 1120, and 2130, which are designed for non-engineers.

Here are two commonly used options for scheduling. They should be relatively accurate in regards to course offerings for Fall 2011.

Available courses are listed here. It may be a bit outdated since it was for last year, but should still be accurate for the most part.

Oh I didn’t see that CS 1132 was 1 credit. I’ll probably add CS 2110 to second semester. Thanks for the great stuff you guys!

PE and engrg 1050 shouldn’t be counted as classes. Treat them as “inflexible time”.
4 classes a semester is pretty light BUT that depends on what you plan on doing.

Double major, minor in business/some other engineering will probably require a bit more than 4 classes a semester to do because of the tendency for liberal art requirements to be at inconvenient times.

If you have more AP classes, your life becomes much much simpler regardless of what your academic plans are. Have fun with your light semesters :D

I guess I shouldn’t say light… I’ll revise that word to average. 4 classes (~15 credits a semester is avg for an engineer)
