Hey there… Iv’e been yo NYC and San Francisco. Iv’e heard Philly is one of the biggest cities in the US. How’s Philly?

Freaking awesome.

I love it...more than NY or DC. Such a chill place.

beautiful.

-Philly is great in its own right
-But even better is its relative size and proximity to campus. It becomes the perfect college city, with all the social cultural historical economic amenities of a city, but not so much or so close that it drains campus life
-It's also in the midst of a rebirth of sorts. Tons of new construction is under way (including a building that will become the tallest building in Philly). National Geographic named Philadelphia "The Next Great American City"

Philly is actually pretty sweet. I find new areas every time I leave campus.

philly is incredible, and its proximity and relation to campus is great.

ive gone for runs up to the art museum along the schuylkill river (yes, and up the Rocky steps), seen concerts right outside city hall, and eaten at some of the most delicious restaurants ive ever dined at (morimoto anyone? how about marikesh? or alma de cuba?). phillies/76ers/flyers/eagles games are just a septa ride away, and even access to NYC is easy (an hour and a half maybe?) and cheap (ive taken buses for $10 round trip)

basically, philly kicks ass.

Philly rocks steady no doubt about it.

The biggest thing is getting people to go off campus. I've always been up for exploring the city and have learned a great deal, found some really chill spots, etc. However, I've found that a large number of students and Penn don't make too much of an effort to get off campus. If you can make it off the beaten path of the Starr Restaurants (which are cool the first few times), etc. there's a ton hidden gems. Lately I've really been digging south philly/bella vista - Sabrina's Cafe for brunch is mind-boggling, La Lupe for BYO mexican that rivals california's/texas's best. Philly has a great music scene as well, go out to show every now and then.

The city is definitely experiencing a rebirth - there's so much energy, a constant buzz. Just wait until you see how the skyline looks in jan. 2008 when the Comcast Center will be completed (975', tallest LEED certified building in america).
