Baylor seems to have a well developed Honors community. My daughter will be doing the “Baylor Interdiciplinary Core” (BIC) and the Honors program, and will be living in the Honors Residential College.

Anyone who could comment on the honors community or the specific programs? The school overall is larger than most of the others she considered but honors makes it seem smaller to her. She will be pre-med, probably neuroscience. She is kind of nerdy and intellectual, and likes hanging out and talking, board games etc, not partying.

After talking with some professors she is excited about the research she can be involved in, but she will also need clinical volunteering experiences. How is Waco for this type of thing? Do you need a car?

The HRC has been an awesome experience for our D. She did not want her car on campus but does use a bike. Lots of service opportunities available, including a premed service organization she belongs to - though she is not premed. I am certain she will find friends with her interests. Baylor is great at putting fresh in small groups the first week and they all get invited to a profs house for dinner. Our D is doing research as a soph and doesn’t need a car. The HRC has loads of activities on the floor and with the whole college (men and women).

Thanks so much, it is good to hear some positive things! Is is hard to get into “town” if you are volunteering or working there?

Responding to this a few months late, but I loved BIC and the HRC. Both will create a great community for your daughter.

You can get around town without a car, but it’s a little difficult. I did it for a year, but if she’s going to be working/volunteering, I suggest having a car. That said, if having a car is just not possible, she should still be fine.
