Was wondering if it was good/bad compared to other college newspapers...

well…read it.
I personally think it is the best college paper I have ever followed…and I read Duke’s and sometimes the Flat Hat, the Vanderbilt papers, Rice Thresher, and the newspapers of some Liberal Arts colleges just because my two sons have been through the mill in recent years in applying to colleges…and the school papers are very telling re culture.

My understanding is that the Cavalier staffers must give blood to be on staff and a lot of work is expected…but it is a great paper and a point of pride at the University of VA.

It’s really very good. My sister had some friends that did it though and apparently it’s a HUGE time commitment, assuming you would like to write for the paper.

The website sucks. The print version is cool though, I used to read it daily on my way to class.

I don’t go a day without picking it up. They make it really accessible, as there are pick up locations ALL over grounds, even at the far bus stops. It’s free, it lets you know what’s going on around grounds, it has a NY Times crossword, editorials, comics, sports, lifestyle, etc etc. I really love it

Bit too “sterile” sometimes.

Some of the editorials seem written only because they had to write something there. As in, there doesn’t seem to be a personal investment in the pieces and if so, it’s often an ineffective piece (so you have clear and cogent arguments for why situation X is sucky. But what do you propose we as UVA students do about it?)

But yeah, it’s quite good and professional compared. But I wish it had some of the swagger of the Dec. I mean, that’s where the CavDaily needs improving, but I suppose UVA has it good.

I personally think it’s sucky. You can spot errors and typos sometimes, and the content is really dry and not so intellectual. That’s just my take though.

sure it’s not the times or the post, but it’s a solid college paper. My friends and I will make jokes about mistakes and some of the articles they write about, but we do know that it is quite an undertaking for a student-run paper to print 5 days a week.
