I've been warned! Haha, well, just trying to get an honest answer. I've never done any type of drugs in my life, and plan on keeping it that way, but I'm really liberal and it's fine to me as long as its not too over the top.

I don't go to Brown, but I live in RI and go to Brown stuff ,so I'll help you.

Brown is a VERY liberal school and I would say a lot of people smoke and maybe use shrooms, but as far as I know very few people shoot up heroin or use crack. and overall use hardcore drugs

The funny thing about that question is that a parent actually asked that on a college tour I was on (not Brown). The tour guide, in all sincerity, answered, "Well, your son should be able to get just about anything he wants."

This shouldn’t deter you from applying to Brown. It has the most prevalent drug scene of all the Ivies (if you don’t count the abuse of ritalin and adderall as drug abuse) but students are by no means addicts and you won’t be socially excluded from anything if you choose not to use drugs. Brown, like every top school, has its fair share of straightedge nerds (not in an offensive way, they just don’t do scandalous stuff) that will probably never even consider doing drugs while at Brown and it has its fair share of liberal students that would partake in such activities. Both group of students are equally smart, equally open and probably equally cool with such a thing.

If you don’t want to go to Brown just because there’s a semi-prevalent drug scene, then you probably aren’t open-minded and accepting enough for the institution anyways.

LOL @ a very old thread being bumped up, but I just thought I’d add:

I’m not going to go into detail, but I hang out with a lot of people that you would say “are in the drug scene.” Do you know how many times I’ve seen a drug considered “worse” than shrooms?

Never.

There’s definitely a good amount of recreational drug use and lots of people that smoke weed, but to prospect students: unless you seek certain drugs (or the right people), you’ll probably never see them. and lol @ the post above me…I’m sorry but you’ve clearly never visited Cornell or Columbia (neither of which are that bad either). Or you go to Cornell but have never visited Brown and don’t know the comparison. All in all, drugs are there at any school if you really want them. The question is how prevalent they are on a daily basis. And to be honest, they aren’t at Brown.
