Hows the econ dept. and fin. aid to international students?

How is the econ dept. in Barnard? I know it’s in NYC so i assume there should be many interns? anywayz, how’s the financial aid to international students? All i can pay is 25,000USD a year so im looking for fin. aid or paid intern to help me cover the rest of the expense…

any ideas??..

Barnard does not guarantee financial aid to all internationals, but they do give aid to some. I believe that if they give aid, they will meet their definition of full need -- but that might be different than yours. .

If you are interested in attending Barnard, you should apply, but you should apply to other colleges as well so that you can compare financial aid offers. It is best to check each college's web site or email their financial aid offices to determine their policies about financial aid for international students.

Don't quote me, but I think financial aid for international students is very hard to come by. Most international students at Barnard and Columbia are very, very well off. They can afford full tuition and still live more than comfortably (like buy a new 17" Powerbook a day after a virus has consumed their IBM). One of my good friends is from Brazil, and she once told me that she was put on the waiting list for financial aid, which jeopardized her future at Barnard. Fortunately, after a phonecall from Daddy, she was able to receive the financial aid. She got the impression that very few international students got aid because Barnard put aside limited funding -- and because a lot of international students don't really need it.

Still, I think you should apply anyway and see what happens. I know of at least two international students who work a decent amount on campus and are not well-off like the rest.

i dont know much about financial aid, but the econ department at barnard is awesome. it's one of the most popular majors, and from what i hear it's pretty intense/hard but there are several favorite professors and you get a lot out of it.
