How's the food?

...and the meal plan at Emory? I've heard students from other schools complain that it is virtually impossible to get your money's worth from the meal plan because of goofy 'rules' regarding points and what not. Anybody with any first hand knowledge of food quality and the meal plan at Emory???

the foods fine...im a freshman at Emory btw....the regular cafeteria is what you would expect, but there are so many other alternatives on campus that you’ll never be bored. In fact, most of the restraints and businesses around campus accept the Emory card, our school credit card that we use for meals.

at emory, you have a certain number of meals a week to use at the cafeteria (known as the DUC), which is like a typical school cafeteria with so-so food, but many choices. you'll probably love the DUC for your first few months at emory (as much food as you want...you won't go hungry) and you probably won't use up all your meals. then..the food gets a bit repetative and you get tired of eating the same foods every day.

then, for each meal plan, you get a certain amount of "dining dollars". these dining dollars are good for the restaurants across campus from the Cox Hall foodcourt (many different fast food restaurants) to the different grills and coffee places located around campus to the Carlos Museum cafe.

the food at emory..is..ok. i've been to other schools with worse food, but im sure there are schools with better food. but basically...you're probably going to get sick of the food at college no matter where you go, so don't let that influence your decision toooo too much.

About 80% of the time, the food at the DUC is good. However, sometimes DUC food is nasty. That is when you must eat at other places.

Realizing that there is going to be a certain amount of cafeteria style food at any school, I still asked the question about food because at Boston College we found a pretty good attempt at providing lots of options, made-to-order items, etc.

Thanks for the feedback.

There is an option on the meal plan to either take 3 meals per day with $ in dining dollars, or 2 meals per day with more $ in dining dollars. It is probably best to take the 2 meals per day unless you eat breakfast every day.

You seem to be the residential Emory expert around here. Can you speak a little on your thoughts regarding freshman housing and which is the best place you feel for a Freshman to apply for?

At least last year, they didn't let you pick the dorm. You filled out a questionaire with questions such as what time you go to bed and whether you wanted a double/triple. They then told you where you were assigned.
