How's the food?

Do any current students have any positive/negative things to say about the food at Brown. I personally eat a lot.

If you're willing to walk to get good food you'll find it.
The Ivy Room and the Gate for example are pretty nice.

I'm pretty picky and in terms of the quality, with some flexibility, I've had little to complain about

How are the vegetarian/vegan options?

I can tell you they certainly exist.
Personally, I love cheeseburgers and steaks and chicken and stuff like that so I can't go into much detail other than to say that you will not be alone as a vegan/vegetarian and there are options.

My daughter is a vegetarian (with a vegan preference) and manages just fine. She tells me about hummus, falafel, gnocchi, vegie chili, etc. and has -- well, let's just say she hasn't lost any weight in her freshman year!

they have 1/4 of the main cafeteria devoted to serving only vegetarian stuff.

The food is fine, not extraordinary, but it's good enough.

i spent a summer there a couple of years ago (as a college student), and their cafeteria was one of the worst that i have visited. im a vegetarian too, and i was very disappointed with the offerings.

I think the V-Dub one of the main cafeterias tends to have more of a vegan orientation as does the Ivy Room at Night.

Food is food. The ability to show up and get a hot meal whenever you please is a luxury. Take advantage of it while you can. After taking a gap year and trying to feed myself on a budget with limited kitchen access I am looking forward to any sort of cafeteria food.

The Ivy Room has got to be one of the least healthy vegetarian places you'll find. Sure, nothing has meat, but you'll notice a lot of it is deep-fried or grilled or greasy or sugary, etc. Healthiest option is probably the falafel wrap or the burrito bar, which is a pretty good deal, actually. If you're a vegetarian worried about food, I'd stop in during ADOCH and use your dining dollars to try it out.

Im vegetarian and i found it fine the first semester... though after a couple of months of eating pasta everyday, i got pretty sick of it..

There are options if you are veg though - wraps, etc in the cafeterias, and then sandiwhces, pizza, and loads of other stuff at the gate and jo's (havent really been to the ivy room much)..

Also, if you are willing to spend some money occasionally, thayer street has amazing veg options..

The dining halls suck. Thayer St. has a lot of tasty, affordable options, though.

Thayer is awesome. First day I visited, I went to this middle eastern wrap place (I think they have vegan options) and it was wonderful.

Food at the Ratty sucks.

Compared to the other dining halls I visited, the Ratty wasnt too bad.

Well that's like saying that compared to the first outbreak, subsequent herpes outbreaks aren't taht bad.
