I’m just curious…how is the food at Barnard? :)

there are good things and bad things. good: the grill, pasta station, lunch time pizza, brunch on weekends, some desserts, sometimes the salad bar, frozen yogurt machine (if it's working). bad: cereal selection, drink selection, dinner time pizza. hewitt also has "late night" which is great for if you want to eat your feelings and stress with greasy fried foods and ice cream.

not that i have much to compare it to, but i think it's basically like most college dining halls. i'm happy to not be on a meal plan next year though, because it's expensive (like, for unlimited it works to about $25 a day), and because i happen to be a particular about foods (i don't really like meals, but eating sporadically throughout the day, and the dining hall doesn't really cater to that).

oh, and i forgot about java city. they have great things like hummus, sushi, sandwiches, Naked drinks, and of course coffee (which is bad in my opinion). when you're on unlimited, i think you have like, 250 "dollars" for a semester, and they're roll over. (i might be completely wrong about the amount, though..)

You'll survive, but you'll be happier after your first year when you are no longer tied to the food plan -- the biggest problem that my daughter had, I think, is that knowing what the food plan cost, she felt guilty about spending money elsewhere, even though it is an easy walk to hundreds of restaurants, cafes, markets & street vendors.

It's not amazing but definitely not bad. And on the bright side, you have both the Barnard cafeteria and the Columbia one to choose from. I think the Barnard cafeteria has a great grill and generally pretty good entrees for dinner and lunch. The Columbia cafeteria has a good salad bar and breakfast (which Barnard is not so good at) so between the two of them, you're fine. Personally, I will be happier not to be on the full meal plan and buy more points (There are lots of Columbia cafe's and also some food places in the area that now take flex points) but many of my friends are staying on the unlimited plan, so they must really enjoy the cafeteria food!
